The older Windows Media Player had a great one. Don't know if you could screen capture it though. I think it died when Macrosoft killed Windows Media Center.

Since VS uses GLSL and I have past game engine dev experience with writing fragment and vertex shaders, if I don't mind breaking out my rusty optics background and re-installing my OpenGL tools, I can code up my own materials!! Wheeeee! :wheee: :wheee:

Haven't used more than 3 layers so far, though. Going to need a better machine to really push this into a VFX aural orgasm!! :hihi: :hihi:
feel free to share any materials you make 8) i have no skills there

Shaders are stupidly complex and involve needing a basic knowledge of optical models, some advanced math, 3D rendering.. and more patience than I think I have left! It's been over 30 years since I did gamedev, so.. don't hold your hopes out!

That said, I'm more likely to produce an in-depth tutorial on how to beat VS into producing complex visuals without coding fragment shaders. I've experimented with tutorials, and at least for VS I feel there's not a lot of 'Here's a cool video, here's how I made it happen" stuff that might help spread the word. I just need a better camera than my Sony Handycam, although it is HD and would work in a pinch.

Ugh, might get After Effects after all. I can rent it for projects, I suppose.. not like I need to eat or anything..  :help:

Meh, my writing isn't going well, this would be a good excuse to quietly kill that project and focus on music-related stuff. Argh, argh, arghhhhh... :help:

My first real try at a music video! Trippy stuff. Will improve with experience and more coffee.

It’s weird. I did a whole demo video with it to try and sell my boss to buy it for us for a project and I was never able to get out a rendered video, even with help from support. I abandoned it.

There's a thread that was a poll, but covers VS and other visualisers and tools here, btw, might be useful:

Having the jpeg/png import and using 'Milkdrop presets' function is something I want to have, for doing various effects. And bringing in your own clips, looks really easy. AND mapping clips/images (etc) to a 'hot-key', as well. Cool stuff! :)

TL;DR :P :P

Thanks for the huge info dump, but I'll stick with VS as I've managed to wrap my head around it for the moment... despite the headaches.

If I need more I'll hork up for After Effects Creative Cloud and a shiteload of particle effect plugins. I'm not going to live long enough to try everything I'd like to, so I have to focus some. :( :(

Some interesting stuff there. But after 42 years of coding, just opening up an IDE or even a code text editor makes me sick and dizzy... :help:

Just plain old Silicon Valley burnout. Most of my old co-workers operate breweries or wineries now, le sigh.
