Akai Midimix to control a Waldorf Blofeld with an Akai mpc one

I would like to know if it would be possible to control my Waldorf Blofeld with the Akai Midimix?

The Blofeld desktop and the Midimix would be connected to an Mpc One via a USB hub.

The Midimix would be useful to me for cc midi to be able to control several Blofeld parameters.

Can you tell me if it is possible to do this with Midimix and its editor?

Sure, why not? The Blofeld's MIDI CC's are listed in the appendix of the manual.

I originally wanted to take the Midi Fighter Twister, but couldn't be sure of the possibility of connecting it to the mpc one and being able to make it work with the Blofeld.

I wonder if the Midi Fighter Twister isn't more dedicated to being connected via USB and to controlling a DAW and VSTs.

As far as I can see, the editor is simply for setting up device templates, i.e. changing the MIDI CC's of the controls of the device. So, exactly what you need.

I'd like to hear this confirmed by someone that has done this in practice (since I don't own any, let alone multiple midi-over-USB gear) but my understanding is that USB devices only connect to a host computer, and have no access to data streams of other devices on the same hub. If they could, I'd regard that as a severe security breach.

So my footnote without this actually confirmed, is that this requires you to have some software running on your computer to route midi messages coming from one device to another / the others.

The MPC One replaces the computer as a host in this case. I never tried a MPC One, so I don’t know if it features some kind of midi routing between various usb devices. I guess you can connect a few midi controllers (like a master keyboard) to send midi to the mpc, then the mpc forwards it to whatever midi device which may use it, such as synths.


There are midi usb host boxes, if one needs to convert usb to din without needing a computer (one of such boxes is made by Kenton).


I wouldn’t suggest the Beatstep as a midi controller because the encoders are slow (it works great as a step sequencer, though!). It would work (you can even connect them directly with a standard Din cable), but the user experience won’t be great IMHO.


Another midi controller option is the Novation Launch Control XL. You can edit the mappings and then save a few different mappings on the device if I’m not mistaken (I have one here that I plan to add to my setup… it’s bigger than what I expected).

I feel like I should add something about the Launch Control XL MK2. I have yet to spend time with it (I only unboxed and registered so far ... unfortunately I'm re-organizing my room and it's taking way more than anticipated, I changed my keyboard stand and it took me hours and multiple attempts before getting an usable solution... and I still have a mess to sort out it took me a good chunk of the weekend, then I did some long due work on the mods of my MS-20 Mini).

Anyway, this evening I checked it out for a minute (I was checking if the caps are rubberized, but thankfully they seem just plastic, unless I didn't notice it... I have something like 100+ caps to clean from sticky rubber across multiple devices ) and I noticed the knobs are center detent (like you would expect from a panpot knob). It's not a problem at all for me, but it's still something you may want to know beforehand (if you don't like that center detent in your use case).

Unfortunately I didn't use it yet, so I can't comment on how well it behaves actually.

No actually, I prefer linear and infinite knobs.

For my use, the notches are not great because they generate jumps.

The Midimix apparently doesn't have this problem.
