I'm sure they did a fine job but I can't say the sounds in the videos blow me away. Same for the SEM/OB-E. The OB-X is actually probably the synth I think has been done exceptionally well several times. I have OP-X Pro-II, Obsession and OB-Xtreme, and they are all amazing (Have Arturia too but it isn't as good as those). Similarly for SEMs I prefer oberhausen and even don't mind the Arturia one for the Poly SEM.
Definitely couldn't justify another OB-X when the existing ones are mind blowingly good.
I wish they had updated the imposcar first! Come on imp XMod!

I am going to guess that the OB-Xa is likely to be the next emulated. For those who owned the Oberheim Bundle together with the huge discount I think it's worth. It replaces OP-X Pro-II to my ears.

Please allow me be the first to complain about the GUI.
The white section labels on the incredibly pale blue (almost gray, almost white) background looks awful. My vision is still pretty darn good but the low contrast is awful. On the 3D render at the top of the product page, where the background is a deeper blue, no issues. Looks great there. But in the plugin itself, the legibility of those labels is pretty awful. Otherwise, no other GUI complaints.
From a sound perspective, it's pretty good but reminds a bit of the OB-Xa clones we have on the market (Artuia/Synapse) and neither does a thing for me. The fiilter on this sounds different though and pretty good. Will need to roll my own patches and play with this some more. Definitely not an insta-buy from me. Even with the discount. Based on emulations of OBs, I think I just prefer the SC, Moog, Roland sounds and these later OB's just don't do it for me.

Someone who made complaints about the SEM version 1.6 during Beta made these comments too...during the last few weeks... Please email them, they might listen, againFunkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Thu Oct 12, 2023 1:11 pm Please allow me be the first to complain about the GUI.

I find the contrast of the GUI good, at least I have no problems. The demo mode is a good idea, limited to hours or days without noise or other interruptions. This way you have some fun to have a closer look at the synth. I like the sound, especially with pads or more "ambient" sounds.
I don't have that much experience with the Oberheim synth.... I only own some plugins like the Arturia stuff, bx_oberhausen (which I really like). I have also tested Synapse and I think the Sonic Projects synth. So the ultimate question is, who is closer to the original?

my brother owned an OBX and an Xa; the original X blew the Xa away (in terms of sound, not features). never got near the OB8. anyway, will check this out this weekend, curious to see how it holds up.

Is the X significantly different from the Xa? I know we had one of them in the shop I worked at back in the day, but I don’t remember which one… probably the Xa. I wonder why there are already two Xa emulations if the X is the one to beat. I guess I’ll just have to demo it and see. I’m totally slammed at work, though. For some odd reason, management seems to hate process.fisherKing wrote: Thu Oct 12, 2023 1:59 pm my brother owned an OBX and an Xa; the original X blew the Xa away (in terms of sound, not features). never got near the OB8. anyway, will check this out this weekend, curious to see how it holds up.

Xa has more features, some prefer the sound of the X. I believe the X use many of the same components as the SEM.

Yeah, the OB-X had a discrete filter (just no multimode, only 12db) whereas the OB-Xa and OB-8 used Curtis chips for everything but had increasingly more features.
EDIT: beaten to it!

You only wrote like one or two sentences on it. That's hardly complaining. I did a whole, multi-paragraph post. And followed it up with an email tech support. That's how you complain!Vortifex wrote: Thu Oct 12, 2023 2:19 pmAlready beat you to itFunkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Thu Oct 12, 2023 1:11 pm Please allow me be the first to complain about the GUIHad the same complaints.

I always enjoy posting this video because it's a delight to listen to. But anyway, to my ears OB-X is better but slightly more noisy and unclear, whereas OB-Xa is great for clarity and probably mixes better, but is less warm and cozy.

the X had a fuller, rounder sound. my brother programmed both similarly, and we compared the sound. the Xa was definitely thinner, very sawtooth'y. it had more features, but we both preferred the X.zerocrossing wrote: Thu Oct 12, 2023 2:04 pmIs the X significantly different from the Xa?
