Also Synthmaster 3

The next one that comes out with a 'sub-only' model. I thought that would've been obvious from the thread. :hihi:

Zebra 3 will feature the brand new Urscription only model, where you must write "Hallo Urs" every time you launch the synth.

Great to see the about-turn. That said, $200 for an NFR synth is far from an impulse purchase — and I wonder how many factory presets will be included and whether it will be a closed ecosystem.

Given the debacle, I would be thinking about rebuilding trust and getting Current into as many hands as possible. The bigger your user base the more more preset packs you can sell. A far more competitive intro price with a significant amount of factory presets would support this.

Nice move Minimal Audio, you have a new customer.

Dude one guy suggested that the whole fiasco was a publicity stunt, everyone is talking about this synth right now, including the youtube puppets, who knows.

Obviously yesterday we made a lot of mistakes. Here is our plan to correct them:

TLDR: killing subscription.

We welcome any feedback as we begin to move forward with this new plan.
did you made this whole fiasco for publicity? the make more noise and come out as a savior to the vst addicts removing the subscription only policy?

Haven't spent much time with it yet, but it is a solid synth, for certain. They put some sweat equity into building this as it is intuitive to use and sounds great. Even if you have Vital, Pigments, Phaseplant, or Serum, I think it could compliment them nicely. Personally, I think it's at a solid price point as it holds its own with similarly priced products.

I still don't really understand the rent to own thing. Looks like pricing is the same as for subs - $15pm or $120pa, correct? Presumably this counts as credit to the synth itself, so you own it in just over a year and a half? Then you can own other bits and pieces as you keep going.

Correct so far?

What about for those who are paying $199 for the vanilla synth? They pay the same ongoing price, but they can cash this in at some point for expansions etc?

Still confused over what effects are bundled in the vanilla version.

Minimal may not have figured it all out themselves of course.

Can't say I'm in the market for this - I own too many others that cover similar ground - it's pure curiosity on my part at the moment. I'm glad they about-turned and I'm glad a lot of folks seem happy, but it looks a long way from a solid prospectus to me just yet.

Right?

"You can't make everyone happy all of the time and last night they were all at my show." - the late great Mitch Hedberg

Running a company is difficult. Placating everyone is impossible. At the end of the day, is it a good synth or not? It's all subjective including whether it adds value to your workflow.

Whether it was intentional or not is sort of beside the point. From what I can gather, they're a small team that acted quickly to pivot when the pushback rolled in. Larger companies don't do this. They simply can't.

From the demos the synth is really good, a bit expensive but very good synth.
