I've played so many of these and made sound banks with most of the major ones. I can say that this one is really exceptional in my opinion. I've had early access to this plug-in and have been working on this sound bank the last couple weeks, you can really hear that the tone and authenticity are really outstanding:

You know that bright interface is REALLY hurting my eyes now. GForce please make it darker.

BTW, this thing sounds beautiful. I hope a OB-Xa is in the works.

OB-Xa - bad. OB-X - good.

Well, maybe not bad, but, OB-X sounds much better.

But the OB-8 has more features!

I thought Synapse plugins have a 30 day demo limit. No mention of 6 hours in the demo limitations.

Sorry. I was talking about the GForce OB-X. It's a time limited demo. If you walk away from the PC wiht the plugin running, you'll eat up all your demo time. Found that out the hard way.

They do mention it on the site, but there's no way to force people to read when they can just click a button.
THE TRIAL VERSION IS LIMITED TO 6 HOURS OF USE OR 7 DAYS, WHICHEVER IS LONGER. PATCH ACCESS IS RESTRICTED TO THE ALPHA PATCHES.

Oh ok I must have misread this as the train of thought kind of runs together:

I agree that 6 hours isn't much but I guess if we know that going in we'd better make good use of that time.

Exactly, the demo time limit was also related to the OB-X.

I have a lot of respect for GForce. ImpOscar was the synth that started my move away from hardware. I love Oddity too. But I wasn't amazed by playing with OB-X. I should make it known that I've never owned an OB so I have no reference point to it as an emulation. I didn't like the restriction on Presets that you can play. What sells a synth more than it's sounds? I will have another play with the demo but I may well skip this one.

SO in agreement. it's a fuller, richer sound. by comparison, the Xa is thinner, reedier...

with the demo, you can tweak presets endlessly, and make your own sounds. no reason gforce can't limit a demo; the idea is to get us to buy the plugin.

but if it's not for you, it's not for you... :tu:

I understand why this matters but the X-Modifiers are the game changer for me. Now we have three flavors of X-Modifier synths, that’s a big deal!

Well it took me ten minutes with the demo to learn that I want this synth but the same ten minutes to learn that I don't need this synth.

As an incorrigible and unapologetic plugin collector I'd like to have it in my collection but it would be what I call a "museum" synth. Something that gets taken off the shelf, dusted off, used for a patch and play session, then put back on the shelf. Not something that would get used in a project these days.

So I'd be in at around $40 just to add it to my collection but even at $78 it's not something I could justify purchasing right now as I have so many other synths that can make similar sounds and with Black Friday coming up I'd better hold on to my bullets for now.

I think this is a nice sounding synth that suffers from being released in a market saturated with nice sounding synths.

Very much in the same boat here.

Had a nice time demoing it before the time ran out. Had an initial play that left me completely unimpressed, but then after I work, I got the chance to dig in deeper. Probably got to use it for like 40 minutes before walking away with the computer and I liked what I heard was getting. Came back to it later last night, and no more sound.

It did indeed sound really nice when I got to dig into it. The X-Mod features are nice. I thought the FX were good. The raw synth sound was not my favorite (mostly seemed due to parameter ranges/scaling - very small tweaks had very big impacts), but it did sound different than other synths I already own. And once you got a good patch going, it was really good - even if the sweet spots felt a little small.

But between the contrivences of the demo policy and the white text on a light gray background, and the intro deal being about $70, it's really easy to pass on this. It helps that I impulse-bought a new guitar amp this month (a gorgeous sounding '79 Vibrolux Reverb) so I'm way over my music budget. At $40...wouldn't have thought twice. Maybe I'll revisit it at a later time, but I think I'll be passing for now. Hell, if I could demo it more I may be able to convince myself to buy, but the fact locked out of even demoing further makes it easy to say no.

Here's a tip for developers: the more hurdles and roadblocks you put up, the easier it is to pass on things in a saturated market. Think twice about your demo policy and making sure it's not too onerous or easy to screw up.
