Would love to see, Reaper having a Sampler Track like Cubase has on.
I know it has a sampler, but the Pitch shift and Time Strech is not implementet into it.
So, my voice sounds like Miky Mouse after a few keys up:)
Any idea if something like this is planned in Reaper or may be I totaly overlook the obwious?:)

Reaper has ARA, doesn't it have a good discount on Melodyne?
- all daws that implemented ARA have had this, Sonar, StudioOne etc
For quick and dirty and maybe some harmonies I use Waves Ultrapitch
- up to 6 voices from one

I didn't get what you are doing, thought it was a vocal track.
So you record your voice doing something, and then load into sampler and play back as different notes?
Reaper 7 is release candidate running beta right now, so maybe ask for new features on Cockos forum. Have no clue if a sampler track is coming.

No, no - Reaper will NEVER have a sampler track. Because there areclassic wrote: Sat Oct 14, 2023 1:00 pm Would love to see, Reaper having a Sampler Track like Cubase has on.
only very abstract general tracks in Reaper. No midi track, no audio
track and no instrument track. Especially not a sampler track!
That's the special thing about Reaper: a single generalized track
type can do everything!
If you want pitch transformation, you can easily apply ReaPitch toclassic wrote: Sat Oct 14, 2023 1:00 pm I know it has a sampler, but the Pitch shift and Time Strech is not implementet into it.

any item. There are now around 8 different algorithms for Reapitch
that cover everything.

Yes, lots of pitch modes.
But no such thing as a sampler track so....

if there's one thing the reaper devs don't want at this moment, it's new feature requests for v7.lfm wrote: Sat Oct 14, 2023 1:27 pm I didn't get what you are doing, thought it was a vocal track.

What are the cliffs notes for the features or redesign that this needs to be an upgrade from 6 to 7?
There are two kinds of people in the world. And you're not one of them.

Feature request is for any future update large or small.funky lime wrote: Sat Oct 14, 2023 4:09 pm if there's one thing the reaper devs don't want at this moment, it's new feature requests for v7.
- if it get lots of votes on Cockos forum for this
As I recall for v5 it was new stuff like
- VST3 support
- ARA support
- custom metronome patterns
- officially supported by Waves plugins
- VCA faders
Not sure if notation and video editing were the big ones for v6.
No clue if anything promised for v7...
I think Cockos team did excellent in
- making a daw low on resources and full of features
- excellent work on manual
the only substandard thing about Reaper would be gui design IMO.
- hire a good designer for that
- make it look professional like ProTools, Sonar or Cubase
- have some easy checkboxes to decide which toolbar options you want ready as first install
- a couple of modules that other daws have so you feel at home
- maybe some choices if wanting keyboard shortcuts for major daws from start
I remember purchasing Reaper in 2010 v3.6 the first thing I had to do was to get aquainted with Actions and find those that were appropriate to put in buttons on toolbar.
- why give a fresh user an uphill battle with this crap the very first thing?
If spending 10 hours a day mixing, maybe on two monitors making up all you see all day
- and you hate what you see?
it's vital you like what you see spending all this time with a gui
- there are loads of feature requests for this on Cockos forum

honestly, one of reaper's biggest strengths in my opinion is that in many ways, it doesn't try to behave like all the other DAWs. a lot of your requests here are basically like "i want reaper to behave like a different DAW" and at that point, why not just use the other DAW instead?lfm wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 11:03 amFeature request is for any future update large or small.funky lime wrote: Sat Oct 14, 2023 4:09 pm if there's one thing the reaper devs don't want at this moment, it's new feature requests for v7.

the uphill battle with the toolbar thing? nah. i'd rather they give me an empty toolbar, than fill it with 50 things i'll never personally touch. we'll just have to disagree there. most things you've cited as flaws, i see as features.
and i could have worded it better, i meant specifically, popping into the v7-specific reaper forum and making feature requests is frowned upon. yes, there's a separate feature request subforum, i just meant don't use the v7 subforum because it is not for feature requests.

Really:
Pitch shifting and time stretching are not tied to a sampler or sample tracks.
Especially in Reaper, there are almost endless options for time-stretching
or pitch-shifting audio clips - at a very high level.

If you use the key 'm' to set a marker with text in another daw, why having to use another key in Reaper?funky lime wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 1:15 pm

- and loads of other commands you are used to
The lasso marquee is right mouse button in Reaper, which is hell on a laptop as I discovered I am running trial on.
- I had to go to manual to figure that out, since left mouse button is always used for all selecting in other daws
- so hold right touchpad as you do a lasso circular motion with other finger at the same time with the same hand
- not convenient unless having a mouse
- so commands could be adapted to such things
- make threshold as low as it goes for newcomers
It easier to remove buttons in a toolbar, than to first figure out which action goes with what you want and then pick an icon and things.
- many toolbar managers are just drag and drop outside toolbar and gone
If you use the special features of Reaper like ramping playback speed and many things, I can understand what you are saying. Those features does not exist in the same manner in other daws.
- I see nothing special in Reaper otherwise
Reason to use one daw and not another could be due to headroom for what you want to do is there.
- what you have in common, use the same key command is convenient not learning another dozen of those.
- looking through menues or manual and finding what to use
But I use daw as tape recorder, arm for record and record in realtime, repeat for some tracks and done tracking and start mixing.
But want alternative to Sonar as I don't have surround mixing in my version 7 years old. Also some VST3 multiout does not work in Sonar so could be convenient if Reaper works to do that project there.
And also good if having issue with a plugin in one daw, to have another to try it in, as you contact support and to narrow down.
Stop using one daw is often you stumble on some showstopper thing that it's unstable or something, or using silly amount of cpu.
- like the new video engine I waited for in Cubase which were a cpu hog
- so went to studioone since track templates for a project could easily be transfered
- then I found other showstopper stuff in studioone and went back to Sonar
That's how it's been....

Okay, serious question: does REAPER has the ability to store ALL of the user preferences and customization in a single JSON file, and a built in console/shell to use git to store branch different versions of that config JSON in a git repository?
Honest responses only.

I've only used sourcesafe, svn and bazaar durin my active years.
- but there is no need to have everything in a single file
- you check out any branch that can be several file structures just as easy
- just some file types to exclude that you normally don't want to take up space with when comitting to repository
If git is a mature file versioning system it can do that too.
- does it only do json files, or?
About Reaper in particular I have no idea.
- just enter for windows c:\user...reaper and all config would go with it.
- I found not data for Reaper below c:\programdata
- but would not be surprised if somebody did an sws extension that did what you ask for?
But have been thinking about using a versioning system for really large projects.
- can be very useful since daw backups usually handle project file only
- if you make mistakes with deleting or corrupting audio files and other stuff that would not be covered,
- but a versioning system could do that, just commit project in between to repository

one time when i used to wait tables, and i was very new at it, i would greet people with "how are you doing today?" it was meant as a rhetorical question, but one day when i was already quite busy, i greeted a woman who was dining by herself and asked her how she was doing. she burst out into tears and proceeded to tell me all about how her dearly beloved cat had just died. i just had to stand there awkwardly, actually busy as f**k, and conjure up some sympathy while this woman bawled her eyes out in the middle of my crowded section.lfm wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 2:14 pmIf you use the key 'm' to set a marker with text in another daw, why having to use another key in Reaper?funky lime wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 1:15 pm
