Its never a waste of time, something is always learned.
I usually learn I'm wasting my time...

I'm going to go ahead and replace my Aira S-1 with a Roland Boutique unit, likely a JD-08. Still leaves 1 spot for a hardware synth (my space limit is 2).

My poor Ryzen 5 Pro system is showing its age, as I push into video work. Feh. That means a new com0uter before anything else, there goes a grand or so. RAM isn't a big deal as 16GB is fine, I don't use massive orchestral libraries any more as I can get the ambience I need out of Vital.

I need a granular synth now, I suppose, to complete my move to The Dark Side. Argh. :help:

Spent far too long playing around with clocking in software trying to find the best way to sync a DAW, VCV Rack and a few other things. Still not come to a firm answer but really don’t want to spend hundreds on a dedicated hardware clock source.

Upgraded to Reaper 7. The v5-6 license lasted me 5 years.

Just watched a vid where someone mentioned this, VB-Audio Matrix, a free software for linking multiple lots of ASIO, windows audio etc under one thing like Macs can. I’ll give it a go at the weekend, will be interesting to see just how bad the latency gets and whether it’s more successful than ASIO4ALL.

Right? It's so cheap I don't even care what's new. I'll upgrade just to stay in the upgrade cycle. If ever anyone deserved the money for a couple pizzas from me every five years, it's Cockos.

If there were a VST version, it'd come home, all I saw was standalone.

I could feel it coming in the air last night, oh Lordy...

After a pile of tracks worked on without a single Native Instruments plugin, it's time o delete the last few bit s from my system and free up space for video assets. :?

In an unexpected but unsurprising move, given my current musical direction, I've used jusr a few synths: Vital, Kult, and ZebraHZ.. and one sampler, TX16Wx (as it allows me to use the Anomaly preset packs, a dark ambient orgasm in every one).

I just find the huge variety of pads, drones, basses, and dark sounds to drop straight into any track at all without slowwwww load times, a cluttered UI, and piles of libraries no longer germane to my work. Clutter is my eternal foe!

If I ever start doing cinematic stuff again, maybe I'll reinstall it all, but for the foreseeable future those times age PAST. Back to my dark and evil roots, this time with video! :o :scared: :hyper:

Now to set up a third computer strictly for video work. Le sigh. Top Ramen the rest of the year!! :help:

Upgraded my SSD from Intel 660P 1TB to Samsung 990 Pro 2TB.

It was the smoothest, fastest and easiest drive migration I have ever done. Took less than an hour and that included dealing with some minor cable tangling and confusion, cleaning the dust out of my PC, figuring out where Asus hid the second M2 slot, having to locate a couple of dropped screws while fending off the dog, and enduring my wife's "please insert disk 17" jokes. Cloning the drive was about a three-click process that took all of 20 minutes and automatically resized the partition.

Post

Yes, it’s amazing how simple it all is now. If I’m cloning the ‘normal’ SSDs I’ve even got a caddy that does it without needing a PC. Can set it up, go out for the evening and come back to a perfectly cloned drive. Think they do similar for m2 drives now too.

This worked a treat when initializing/configuring a 2TB secondary drive (for games/back-up) and cloning my sons smallish OS drive to a 1TB drive before installing them, when upgrading his Lenovo Legion 5 Pro laptop. Both new drives are Samsung, and I've used their migration software without any issues well over a dozen times in the past several years.
