I'm a big fan of the softube/NI one. I use the Waves version quite a bit too for general "squeezing" of signals at the front of a processing chain. I've only really used the two mentioned above and the UAD version back in the day, but my whole UAD experience was garbage and I never went back. I'm happy enough with those two. I may check out the newer softube model at some point if it goes on crazy sale or something.

It is not a LA2A, but the best clean LA2A sound that I could get was with TDR Kotelnikov. Using these settings.

Interesting! You tuned this by ear or did you find the parameter settings (eg attack and release time) somewhere?

I see that the preset doesn't use the Inertia function, which was specifically designed to recreate opto-behaviour.

Will try this. There is Mastering - Optical Illusion -preset in KotelnikovGE, which is quite nice too. I use it as starting point and then tweak on.

I found this somewhere and it fit for how I would use the LA2A.

i start to compare side by side uad and cakewalk la2a models and end up using them both in a chain - the rule two is better than one is always valid

mmm. I think I found similar "UAD-like-preset" some time ago and only had the possibility to test it against the free UAD LA2A recently... It was not at all similar. I spent quite some time trying to emulate in TrackComp what I was hearing in UAD. No luck so far, but I'll try your preset.

By the way, I love TrackComp and it's all over the place in my sessions. But I almost never use the LA2A, and don't gel with it. The UAD was instant smile, so I'm even thinking about fighting my dislike of ilok cloud authorization and get the little bundle with the whole LA2A collection and the dozen plugins...

Anyone know how much time you can use an ilok cloud plugin offline after it has been authorized ? Or, said differently, if you're offline during 1h after starting the session, is it a problem ?

Using offline and ilok cloud is not possible.
