Hey chaps.

Hoping someone can help me out here. I'm replicating Orbital Chime for a university assignment. The snag is I need to be as close as possible to the original - warts 'n all.

I've done copious amounts of research on the gear that was used and so far I've got it down to:

Roland TR 909, TB303, Yamaha DX100, SH101, sampler etc...

Everything's layering in nicely and I'm pretty happy with how it's all coming together (even got to have a play on a customised Xox box for the 303 parts!) but there are two elements that i'm really struggling with. The stab that plays throughout the track (you can hear it right at the beginning) and the main 'Chime' ident. I am so hopelessly stuck it's untrue...

I've been playing around with FM8 in the hope that Orbital used their DX100 for both sounds, but I can't even get close...

Anyone got any ideas?

Any help would be HUGELY appreciated!

Thanks.

Probably should link the actual track, eh?

The very first sound you hear, is one of the ones i'm struggling with..

The second sound comes in at 53 seconds.

Have you read

Sounds like some of what you're looking for is samples

Edit:

Just listening to it again (and getting goosebumps...)

You can hear that both parts are sampled.

Yeah, they did sample an awful lot. The two sounds i'm stuck on are definitely samples (you can hear the chime slowing down when it's played low) but I think they've come from original sounds.

And the goosebump thing? Oh yeah...

These are the guys that got me into dance music in '93 :)

The sample used in the main riff is actually a bonus hidden track on orbital's first album.
Not sure what the original source of the sample is.
