Great video. I guess that’s Captain Pikant? I’ve only seen his hardware videos, that was a great way to do a software demo.

Uh no, we're literally talking about a demo limtation of only including a small handful of patches on top of the demo already being time limited. That part is dumb. There I said it. Alpha patches are entirely dumb.mholloway wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 7:36 pm We are literally talking about a little greek character appearing next to the text of a preset name, but don't blow the 'discourse' out of proportion or anything...

and yet, not everyone has a problem with the demo. i edited a few patches, tried something of my own... and still didn't use up the 6 hours. more that enough time to decide if i want to buy this (or not).Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 8:40 pmUh no, we're literally talking about a demo limtation of only including a small handful of patches on top of the demo already being time limited. I know what you mean and it would be a nice addition, but at least it does have filter tracking.bmanic wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 6:05 pm I do really miss the lack of a keyboard tracking though as you very easily end up with a sound that plays much louder at higher note values than at low octave range.. which would be easily fixed with a simple keyboard tracking modulation source.

That's you, I couldn't care less about that stuff, as long as it sounds good and I think Obsession sounds great. And you're just annoyed that Rich didn't choose any of your patches for the release bank. Krim and I were the same and whenever I fire up Obsession, I always go to the patches I made for it, not the factory bank. Workflow is another issue and it is something I have basically given up on with Rich. I understand why he does it the way he does it (so he can use the same GUI for the rack extension version for Reason) but it annoys the shit out of me.zvenx wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 12:56 pmAnd then there is Obsession which to this date probably is the plugin I had most expectations for and disappointed me the most. As others have pointed the workflow is a bit ____...... but my bigger issue with it still is the factory preset. There is one factory preset in the entire thing I like, the one that BigTone did...Way too many presets that do not pay tribute the original sounds of the oberheim, its like ok here is a new synth, pretend you know nothing about its past or what it is famous for, now go make presets for it...was very very disappointing for me.
Really? 30 minutes is more than enough. It's either going to work for me or it isn't. I usually know within 5 minutes. If I am still twiddling with it after 30 minutes, it's probably worth keeping.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 2:29 pm30 day demo restrictions already bug me enough. 7 day? Hell no.
See above as to why it's like that. The thing with the back panel is that it tends to be set-and-forget stuff around there. I still do 90% of my actual patching on the front panel so I don't find there is a lot of back and forth with it.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 3:32 pmPerhaps, for those reasons, The Legend created a false sense of "this works" that went into the design of Obsession where suddenly the tabbing around became problematic.
I dunno, if you compare it to the one he's done for SEM, it makes this one seem very lame. Honestly, if that vid was the only thing I had seen on their OB, I wouldn't have the slightest interest in it. It sounds weak and horrible, where the SEM video has balls. To be fair, it also feels like he put more effort into the sounds for the SEM one. There is a lot more movement in the patches.Uncle E wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 8:34 pmGreat video. I do really think this plugin sounds great. Just had a few moments of fun getting inspired to go back to my old Amiga/PC demo scene roots.
OB-X Retro Fun (Google drive, mp3)
All sounds from OB-X, including kick and snare of course (had to sample those as the oscillator drift makes it impossible to get a consistent output). No effects used except EQ and compression + limiting on the master. It's very dry sounding as it's just the raw OB-X sound output.. didn't use the built in delay, chorus nor reverb.. just for fun, emulating a raw synthesizer.

Oh it was just a general observation.. and you have a funny way of expressing "talking about" by simply dismissing other peoples opinion outright. Guess it is more convenient that way.mholloway wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 7:36 pmWe are literally talking about a little greek character appearing next to the text of a preset name, but don't blow the 'discourse' out of proportion or anything...bmanic wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 5:50 pmThere's a whole generation that is growing up now that do not want discourse.. they only want echo chambers (aka "safe space").Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 5:38 pm "Deal with it" is how nothing improves. I'm happy for you. Some of us have unexpected life commitments come up and just don't get the time we hoped to twiddle synths over the course of a few days.BONES wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 9:55 pmReally? 30 minutes is more than enough.
