Thank you for turning me on to Headhunter. It is interesting to me to hear examples of music other folks are rockin' out to.

Full disclosure: I played rock/metal guitar for 25 years until diabetes killed the feeling in my fingers; now I'm a dark ambient musician.. likely very few of me around!
There will always be an audience for rock, but smaller than in its heyday, for sure. Which is a shame.
IMHO: guitars or keys, if it rock - IT ROCKS.

I'm sorry to hear about the diabetes spoiling your guitar playing.SuitcaseOfLizards wrote: Tue Oct 10, 2023 10:53 am Full disclosure: I played rock/metal guitar for 25 years until diabetes killed the feeling in my fingers; now I'm a dark ambient musician.. likely very few of me around!

Dark ambient sounds like a natural offshoot of ambient to me; I'm a little surprised it is not more common.

“Stay On Target” starts off pretty loud. It's a nice, strong driving cool song!
The main motif is maintained throughout the entire length of the song - and holds
everything together. It's a pretty good, slightly meditative song!

Solid, well produced track with the "stay on target" samples working as the chorus. Strong and inventive guitar work.

I had presumed SoundCloud would tamp down loud volumes (like every other music streaming service), but I guess not.
Thank you so much for listening and for the kind feedback!enroe wrote:It's a nice, strong driving cool song!

Nice track. I love the rocking "guitar" in it and the beat. As a guitar player I feel for you and your loss of playing. I'm lucky my fingers still work. Anyway, great work and keep up with it.
Well done!

This has a nineties industrial feel, which was a time of great music for my tastes. It sounds like the soundtrack to a Matrix movie or something adjacent.
It also reminds me a little of the Doom Soundtrack by Mick Gordon which is a great example of more modern techno metal if you haven't already digested it.
Great job again!

Although I am not overly familiar with 90s industrial, I did rock out to some Propellerheads, Nine Inch Nails, and Stabbing Westward.Negoba wrote: Mon Oct 16, 2023 12:26 am This has a nineties industrial feel, which was a time of great music for my tastes. Thank you for sharing; I had not previously heard that Doom soundtrack (I had only ever heard the Quake 2 soundtrack). I see that Mick Gordon is playing an 8-string guitar; 7-string guitar is being used on "Stay On Target". I might consider embracing the lower frequencies of an eight or nine-string guitar for a future track, although the five-string bass does its job well already.Negoba wrote:It also reminds me a little of the Doom Soundtrack by Mick Gordon which is a great example of more modern techno metal if you haven't already digested it.

I just recently got a 7-string which is fun but has such a specific sound.
I can't imagine using an 8-string. I know Animals as Leaders has two 8-string players but then they have no bass player. I like a traditional bass.

Like a five-string bass, a 7-string guitar conveniently exposes lower notes, which get lower still when tuning down.Negoba wrote: Mon Oct 16, 2023 1:35 pm I just recently got a 7-string which is fun but has such a specific sound.
What notes did you end up tuning to for each of the 7 strings on your 7-string guitar?
There is clearly some overlap between 8- and 9-string guitars and 4- and 5-string basses (and possibly the 6-string bass). Despite the overlap of a sound register, the tone is certainly different between guitars and basses due to several differing factors such as string gauge, length of neck, degree of resonance from other strings, different characteristics of pickups, etc.Negoba wrote:I can't imagine using an 8-string.
I'll have to check out Animals as Leaders; I'm not familiar with them.Negoba wrote:I know Animals as Leaders has two 8-string players but then they have no bass player.
I do, too. To my ears, it can have a fuller, beefier tone than the higher-numbered string guitars.Negoba wrote:I like a traditional bass.
