As others have pointed the workflow is a bit ____...... but my bigger issue with it still is the factory preset. There is one factory preset in the entire thing I like, the one that BigTone did...Way too many presets that do not pay tribute the original sounds of the oberheim, its like ok here is a new synth, pretend you know nothing about its past or what it is famous for, now go make presets for it...was very very disappointing for me.
That's you, I couldn't care less about that stuff, as long as it sounds good and I think Obsession sounds great. And you're just annoyed that Rich didn't choose any of your patches for the release bank. Krim and I were the same and whenever I fire up Obsession, I always go to the patches I made for it, not the factory bank. Workflow is another issue and it is something I have basically given up on with Rich. I understand why he does it the way he does it (so he can use the same GUI for the rack extension version for Reason) but it annoys the shit out of me.
.....
is this at me?
or you mean someone else?
I was not on synapse audio beta team at that time, I bought Obsession, actually I bought it before I even really heard it, I was so looking forward to it.. there was a glitch on the site that made it available before it went for sale and I took a chance and bought it then.. I have never ever submitted any patches to any bank for consideration for any developer. I don't consider myself a sound designer so wouldn't have attempted to have patches included.

I honestly just think modern sound designers are a bit too young to remember or have any clue what the factory patches sounded like, and I'm not excluding myself from that criticism. I was born in 1979, the year the OB-X was released. I've never owned a hardware synth in my entire life and didn't get into softsynths until around 2002.

I've actually just recently grown to appreciate basic bread & butter sounds and their usefulness in a mix. I would love to create some vintage sounds that hearken back to the days of yore. But I have a hard time figuring out how many of those sounds were made. Sometimes I feel like a sonic archaeologist trying to track down some basic information about those old sounds.

IT BELONGS IN A MUSEUM! :hihi:

Except. like I mentioned there is only one factory bank patch from Obsession I like, the only other patches for Obsession that I like was created and sent to me by someone who has your exact name :).

And this was a few years ago.. so even back then.. you got it!!!

Also, even if nobody remember the initial presets, everybody remember the "hits" created with this fabulous synth.
What would have been nice is a default presets bank recreating those.

Can Diva actually still keep up, not as a 1:1 emulation but in terms of sound? I still remember this test and to be honest, Diva wasn't that far off!

totally agree with this! I find the presets to bombastic and cold and prefer OP-X PRO-II ( also to Obsession)

Very nice synth indeed! I demoed it for about 20 mins or so and compared the sound to Arturia's one and Obsession and I liked this one more (OB-X).

At first, I remembered that I don't want to buy another synth (or anything actually for music making/learning), but this one has really nice range in sound. The presets are inspiring IMO and much better than the other two I have. So what to not like?! Oh, I disliked one thing! That in the demo they didn't mentioned Ultravox among the famous bands that used it!

Anyway, I decided to buy it while in the discount (little bit cheaper from JRR Shop). It is a great synth! Buy it!
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Really? 30 minutes is more than enough. It's either going to work for me or it isn't. I usually know within 5 minutes. If I am still twiddling with it after 30 minutes, it's probably worth keeping.
I'm happy for you. Some of us have unexpected life commitments come up and just don't get the time we hoped to twiddle synths over the course of a few days.
you mean, you can't find enough time in a week to check out the plugin? & how is that the developer's fault?

this whole 'this is what i think and therefore this is how it should be' thing is, and always has been, tiresome.

a developer makes a plugin, opts to set limitations on the demo. you adapt, or don't. at which point, you can buy the plugin, or move on. and if you really feel you missed out somehow... email the developer, and maybe the can give you another shot at the demo.

complaining on a web forum accomplishes nothing.
so you come on the forum and complain about complaining? it's tiresome.
i hear that, really. just as complaining about complaining-about-complaining is similarly, tiresome. :D

The mixer channel is visibly and audibly redlining on most of those examples. Still, you can get a sense of how good it sounds.
It is the Analog Warmth that is coloring the Mixer channel :hihi:
