I have many plugins from
different manufacturers, such as Waves, PA, UAD, Soundtoys, Fabfilter, and so on. (In the early days of learning mixing, I became a foolish plugins collector). But recently I have become fascinated by Kush, and I appreciate its UI, design philosophy, and sound. But this manufacturer doesn't seem to be popular in my country - China. How do you evaluate Kush Audio?

"How do you evaluate?" is not the same as "What is your evaluation of?" or "What do you think about?". I will answer the latter Q:

Kush as a character developer: The "usual suspects" like Pro Q whatever are about being the perfectly transparent technical thing for everyone everywhere - as a result, they can feel bland or uninteresting to use - think Toyota. Kush, on the other hand, is the complete opposite where each device is about a character that is pretty well-defined - as a result, they can feel not suited or totally wonderful depending entirely on the user - think Harley Davidson.

As for popularity: The Waves, Fab Filter model is about being the mostest popular eva. The character model is about connecting with the people who connect with you. That will be a smaller number, but fans will be really using those products and not just telling everyone on the internet that they own all of the UAD plugz (therefore dey is da mostest Pro-ful person in da house).

Now personally: I don't own any Kush but I like the cut of Gregory's jib. I don't own/use any of the big-name brands either. But I have the devices that I relate to and that helps me do the Benedict thing - some are stock in my DAW, some are free/donation, and some I make myself. If I were put on the spot to make a record with only UAD/FF/Waves etc or Kush, I would choose the Kush option with no real thought. This video lets you see that in action with an A-B between a pair of mixes of the same tracks one my way, the other using only UAD. No contest for me.

In this video I ended up A-Bing against another UAD and was unable to tell any difference. You see me a bit flabbergasted against all the hype.

Kush makes great software that’s very useful if you want/like the vibe.

I have several Kush plugins, but tend to no longer use them.
