It's not difficult to understand how it operates, at least not for people who have a lot of experience with synthesis. It's just bad. Badly designed. There are tons of places where it could be optimized.zerocrossing wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 5:31 am It’s funny how many people hate Falcon’s workflow. I must admit, it is far from intuitive, but once you watch their tutorials and see how it’s all laid out, I find it very logically put together and easy to use. The main thing is knowing where to put elements in the chain. It’s not always clear, but you get used to it pretty quickly.
I think people also get a bit confused when they compare a synth like Falcon to a synth like Phase Plant. They’re both multi-engine synthesizers, but Falcon is far more rooted as a sample playback machine than most anything else. I tend to think of it as Kontakt with other synth engines grafted on. Anyway, I think it’s great. I can’t wait until v3 is released. I wonder what the upgrade cost will be.
For instance, try working with multiple keygroups in the tree view, changing common parameters in one go.. yeah, you can't do that. Nor can you select multiple elements within a keygroup in the tree view and edit common parameters all together. It's unbelievably dumb.
Why even have that convenient tree view if extremely common workflow systems of it isn't utilized? This is a common way of working in a lot of other software.. for example Blender. It has a very similar tree view (as do a lot of other software). The whole point of grouping things like this and presenting common parameters for them is so that you can quickly edit a huge amount of data in one go. In Falcon you often have a lot of things with identical values that you quickly want to change and experiment with. Yet there is no way of selecting many at the same time. It's just plain dumb as f**k.
There are some workarounds to this within Falcon though.. but it involves inserting new "modules" all over the place, simply to change common parameters of things. It'd be a lot better to change these at the core of the system (keygroups/elements).
.. but yeah, don't get me started. I have probably a thousand hour of Falcon under my belt by now and I'm still cursing and shouting profanities every 30 minutes or so when using it. Oh and the above example is just one of many workflow issues. It's chock full of dumb restrictions. It f**king sucks. Dumbest "most capable" synth in existence.

But yes, this V3 is the best audio related news of the month !
I love Falcon and love to hate its workflow.
Can't wait to play with the new version.

Ok, I think I have one hundredth of your flying hours on Falcon so no wonder I am cursing every 30 seconds and not 30 minutes...bmanic wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 7:00 am

Even assigning modulations takes multiple clicks...
I really hope it changes that...
Regardless of that, I know already the capabilities will be top notch and the presets awesome... Typical UVI....

bmanic's post is perhaps a little too emotional for my taste but I do have to agree with the main point. Falcon might be "logically" laid out but it's clear that no thought was put into how using it in practice is, or that mouse click economy is a real thing (for any tool it matters how many mouse clicks is required to get something done).bmanic wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 7:00 amIt's not difficult to understand how it operates, at least not for people who have a lot of experience with synthesis. I love the idea of Falcon and its features, but I do also notice that the more I use it the more frustrated I become with how _TEDIOUS_ it is. This is why it has never become a tool for me for times that I need to be creative, but rather a speciality niché thing that I pull up a couple of times a year when I need something done that can't be done in any other tools I have.
Wish for v4 is a complete UI overhaul. Otherwise love UVI as a company, they have other great tools.

Aren't you using the presets ? I don't think many synths have this quality of highly tweakable presets.Liero wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 8:15 am bmanic's post is perhaps a little too emotional for my taste but I do have to agree with the main point. Maybe as a synths if you don't like the workflow, but as a Kontakt replacement for large sample libraries there are not really many other options.sihoja wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 9:44 am Maybe it's the most powerful but I agree with bmanic...
Sold it the second time...too slow, unintuitive workflow, kills my creativity, there are better options
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I will keep Falcon until the end because UVI continue to actively develop it as serious, time-proven tool for sound design, with big care and love for sound and old customers. In the world where software synthesizers pop and disappears in couple of years UVI delivers amazing value with Falcon.
Yes, I don’t use it much because of the clunky workflow, but I hope one day these issues will be solved. I just can’t sell it because each time I open it for control test before selling I end up with truly unique and interesting stuff.
