Another success for common sense and for the petitioning thereof.

(or 'complaining/making suggestions for improvements.' if you prefer.)

The end result, users get more options and are satisfied.

Its def not unreasonable, for gods sake the white text is really hard to read lmao

Tried it.
Found OB-E and OB-Xd to sound much better, and just a better overall synths

There are many knobs and sliders where the mouse wheel does not work. On Manual Tune it only works counterclockwise.
The markers on the slider caps change their color from white to gray and vice versa depending on their position. Shouldn't be that way.

Such sloppiness does not make a good impression on me.

I’m partial to a series of exercises that push the filter at different resonance levels at different mixer settings (NA in this case). Oscillator sync is another way to weed out weak points. Make sure things all sound right all the way up the keyboard.
There are some synths where I spend a lot of time rolling my own presets. For Tone2 synths, I like the sound engine but dislike most of the presets, so I've built up my own library of sounds for each of the synths.

But I am focused on songwriting not becoming a plugin tester or sound designer. Also these emulations have a history of classic sounds and I think these presets should be part of the package. The OP-X includes a very complete set of presets which can be used as a starting point or "as is" in your music. u-he also includes excellent presets on all their synths.

Instead of spending hours creating my own sounds for this synth during the demo period, I would rather spend that time going deeper with Obsession which I paid for and haven't fully explored. This is a crowded area and I don't find GForce's paranoid approach with alpha presets very welcoming.
zerocrossing wrote: Tue Oct 17, 2023 4:07 am But the preset thing… that’s a head scratcher. I have no idea why you’d want to limit your potential customers from hearing all of them. Not everyone makes their own sounds.
Right. We are in agreement after all. :)

The X-Modifiers allow me to create sounds in my head in less time than hunting for presets/samples. I love presets and samples, and use them all the time, but I always reach for Minimonsta and now OB-X when I have something clear and very specific in mind.

Also, FWIW, GForce is rather well known for their quality presets. Yes, would be better if they were all available in the demo, but I think their previous customers already know what to expect.

That's the key part of the main argument for doing away with the alpha preset limitation and just allowing all patches available in the demo.

Not so much to to attract existing GForce customers, but more so, to impress 'new customers' who are less likely to be familiar with the GForce brand.

I've seen it where other developers have limited their demo versions to a lesser amount of presets. Sylenth1 for instance has 128 presets in the demo (versus around 2,500 in the full version), but that's a decent amount.

It's finally sounding good to me after capping the output volume at 25%, osc volumes at 50%, no effects, vintage to 33% or less, and then boosting the output with a separate plugin (eg the free TrackControl).

But you can demo it for years if you want to 8)

Really? I thought you'd come on board long before that. I've never really gone through the factory patches but I really like Obsession. As I said, I don't understand why anyone would care that it does or doesn't sound like an OB series hardware synth.

You can't find 5 minutes? Sounds like you have a shit life.

Nope... I came on board around the time that the new preset browser was introduced first in Dune 3.

I bought it solely because I wanted an OB series emulation, that is the only reason I bought it.
So yes, that would be my number 1 criteria to judge it.

Indeed, seems to be the only reason to buy an emulation. Why else accept limitations when other, generic synths can do so much more?!

It has other limitations:
A demo sample plays every 60 seconds, has 1/2 of the modulation choices, and you can't save/export presets.

Felt more like every 6 seconds.
Yes, would make more sense to disable importing rather than exporting presets, and to disable the creation of sound banks.
