FWIW just updated with the Portal App, smooth and quick for me.
Paid £150 for Falcon when it was released in 2015. Excellent value with all the free updates since. Well done UVI.

Edit: forgot to mention the $100 voucher it come with.

Yes it's not working correctly.

Also, Falcon 3 is on sale for $199.

oh what I meant is I did download rev2 fine. Someone mentioned above there it is a revised factory bank (UI and scripts evolved) and 53 new presets.
I thought you quickly zoned in on the 53 new presets so I was curious how you found them.

It actually took 4 goes to get them, but as I understand I was too darned quick and they hadn't switched over to the new files yet (even though the Portal said it was v3). Fair enough.

No complaints on the download speeds incidentally via the Portal, very snappy.

As to the presets - I just spent 10 minutes going through some of the new stuff. The very first strings preset set the tone - harsh, brittle, took my head off. A familiar falcon feeling. The word "strings" immediately brings lush romantic tones to mind, but no these are the brutal hard "tresspassers will be tied up with piano-wire" kind. I roamed at will in several sections, and while some presets would be fine used in context there was nothing that really stood out. I actively hunted for anything acoustic, but alas. Even sections like Winds sound like a D-50. And with no tags of any kind to find anything beyond fumbling through every patch in a category, motivation is low to continue much further.

I dunno. Despite its dizzying architecture and feature set, Falcon sounds more like an old digital synth than a fully-featured sampler with a synth engine. I just don't get it I guess. (I have similar antipathy towards Massive X, I rarely hear a preset I like there either, but that at least sounds newer - YMMV of course).
Well I just actually went to the new bass presets and I am very very impressed (and yes, I have serum, diva and phase plant)... They sound super fat, modern, punchy...

Well at 200 dollars, as much as I have been impressed by Minimal Audio' Current, I think Falcon 3 is way way better value...

Any recommendations on what to use the voucher on?

I like the look of their compressor, never really been impressed by the libraries, but are open to suggestions.
I'm most excited to try the sequencers with MIDI out :)

The voucher is valid for a longer period (you have to check). Back then when Falcon 1.8 came out, I added the voucher to get world suite 1 during the BF sale with an extra discount. Synth Anthology 4. The Quadra series is also great.

Kinda wish they actually upgrade the existing synthesis modules instead of just adding new ones that are mostly just samplers with slightly different functions. :scared: :scared:

There still isn't cross-oscillator AM/RM, and the FM doesnt even have frequencies ratio below 1. The wavetable's FM is more functional than the FM module... The analog stack is a better additive module than the additive module itself...

I like Falcon, but adding these sample-based "oscillators" doesn't make it much better...

Post

Better would be different mixing modes for all the oscs per program: Kind of a mixing matrix, were you can mix normally, but also ringmod amount, sync amount, fm amount, etc. So not another dedicated OSC module for AM/RM. I mean, why not?

their update portal looks nice but it is about as effective as smearing dog shit on toast for updating plugins.

It seems not all the MPE patches are working?

Ableton Live 11 and Push 3, MPE mode enabled

bmanic wrote: Mon Oct 16, 2023 4:48 pm.. we'll see about the workflow. UVI Falcon was by far the worst workflow of any of the big complex synths/samplers, in my opinion. They have quite a lot to improve if they want to make it anywhere near intuitive or quick to use.
I will agree that Falcon was never intuitive (I only know it as well as I do because I read the printed MOTU MachFive manual cover-to-cover back in the day), but I think it does almost as well as it possibly can given its primary design constraint: Packing a HUGE amount of functionality into a single plugin window.

I don't think Falcon's any more difficult to program than Kontakt (which I don't think does as much as Falcon- although I have only worked with Kontakt 4-6). But it definitely has its own unique workflow and learning curve; definitely not something where you can just hit the ground running.
