It was entered into the KVR 2014 dev competition. It's 64-bit, freeware - barely mentioned here - and I love what it does. It's super subtle but I find that no matter how good you can get a mix sounding, you can always improve it just that tiny bit more with Refine. It's an awesome freebie for mastering.

Here's the description:
ReFine extracts psycho-acoustic parameters from the source and thus allows to add warmth, space and punch to your mixes.

This is done level dependent and rather subtle;
I love this thing. What exactly is it doing? Anything else out there like it, perhaps a commercial plugin with more controls?

After having the EQ for years and still using it as a go to plugin, I decided I'd better checkout anything Ikjb comes out with. Just downloaded Refine after checking out on YouTube. I like that it doesn't make the mix sound affected at all. You can hardly tell what it's doing until you turn it off and notice things sound a bit flatter. I'm starting a new project today so I'll check it out. Almost all "psycho-acoustic mess around" plugins have been a no go for me. but this one just might work well.

When it comes to subtle and that xtra something I use Reviver from https://www.fieldingdsp.com.

Not exactly the same, but at least in the same ballpark.
Sound C loud
Band C amp
Clicks and pops is all I get

I couldn't figure out whee to put so it would show up in Cubase.

I have been using ReFine for years. Not sure exactly how it works or what it does but I really like the subtle "finish" it puts on my VO work.
I just started using a Mac Studio though and its security system won't accept ReFine. Does anyone know a work-around for this? Or, since it's open source, can anyone re-write it so that it will work in silicon macs? I can live without it but I do miss it.

Depending on the nature of the "won't accept" the following work-around might clear the gatekeeper.
  1. Locate the plugin in Finder (ReFine.component, ReFine.vst)
  2. Right click on the plugin and select Services > New Terminal at Folder
  3. Type pwd (to be sure it shows you are inside the plugin bundle, path should end with .component or .vst depending)
  4. Type the following (note a space before the last period):
    sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine .
  5. Type your password to authenticate
  6. Type exit (to close the Terminal window)
  7. Rescan plugins
If the security issue was related to quarantine of the plugin, then you should be able to use it after, which is what that command sequence actually does (with the objective being to only unquarantine the plugin in question).

Why not shoot a mail to the DEV , and ask if he's interested in adding Apple Silicon Native Support ⁉️
