Yeah I’ve replaced UAD with VVV for my reverb.
This whole daw restart thing is painfully stupid.

This is a much more detailed description on what you actually tried before doing your show, and after reading that I agree that you did proper testing to a reasonable extent. Yet I agree with those who said this issue you faced is not in general a convincing argument that UAD plugins are not suitable for a live environment - it is just not advisable to use cloud protection, instead a physical iLOK would do the trick. I can see that this means extra bucks to spend for you, and I feel sorry for you to learn it that way, but then, there is a way to work around your issue.keyman_sam wrote: Sun Oct 08, 2023 6:29 pmNope, wrong. You shouldn't rely on stringent testing by musicians for your plugins to work. You should assume your users will use plugins in a live environment, and anticipate what issues could occur and surface them in a graceful manner.kylie wrote: Sun Oct 08, 2023 6:03 pmSo you didn't test the readyness of your plugins before your live show in an equivalent environment but threw it in your setup just like that and still blame the manufacturer? I'd say your show preparation is kinda lazy...keyman_sam wrote: Sun Oct 08, 2023 4:03 pm If companies want to enforce stringent copy protection, yeah I can live with that.
When said copy protection isn’t detected, SCREAM AND FAIL LOUDLY. Don’t, for the love of god, fail silently.
Especially if you're gonna use a new manufacturer it's more than advisable to test it like you're going live. I was about to say it would have been possible to do machine auth, but indeed it's cloud or dongle only. A "live show dongle" as other suggested would be my advice. too.
And in this case, I DID test with airplane mode on (simulated the live environment) AND I caught the issue. On the actual event, I connected to a hotspot, authorized both Reason and this plugin. Then turned on airplane mode and didn't close the project. I closed the lid.
When I opened the lid (woke up from sleep), Reason worked as it should, UA didn't. That's the issue. It's not transparent when UA requires online connection.

Again, I have NO problem with that (well, a little but I can afford an iLok thankfully).kylie wrote: Sun Oct 15, 2023 2:34 pmThis is a much more detailed description on what you actually tried before doing your show, and after reading that I agree that you did proper testing to a reasonable extent. If this is the case, then SCREAM AND SHOUT that this is the case. Have a pop-up box in UA Connect when you authorize the plugin that it requires an active internet connection if it's authorized with iLok cloud. This is a simple feature UA can implement. When the authorization is invalid, the plugin knows about it right? Why not UA connect? If it loses auth, simply turn red or have an exclamation mark. Otherwise, imagine if I had a hundred tracks. How am I to find the culprit?
Don't assume that your users will understand the under-the-hood authentication mechanism that is iLok cloud. That's all.

I recommend staying away from live shows altogether. They're filled with people! YUCK.

"Have you got any like, progressive rock?" drunk lady drools in ear at deep house club
"PLAY WHO LET THE DOGS OUT!" giant drunk lady demands in deep voice, leaning over DJ booth and resting 'her' hand on the playing record at reggae event.
"Play some fuckin Black Sabbath!" slurs fuckwit stepping all over my guitar pedals on 'originals night'.

Juuuuuust uninstalled the freebie La-2a they offered after the stupid UAD connect keeps popping up doing things AAAND triggering my ilok account app as well twice an hour. WWTTFF!!! Annoying as hell. They joined the native scene a little late. I can live without that crap.

You can easily Delete the UA connect app after you install the plugin and you won’t have the issue. The UA native plugins never trigger iLok idk why they would for you unless it’s trying to authorize it.Debutante wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 3:02 am Juuuuuust uninstalled the freebie La-2a they offered after the stupid UAD connect keeps popping up doing things AAAND triggering my ilok account app as well twice an hour. Yup I just did this yesterday. The plugins seem to be working okay without the app so I think it’s just used for installing and authorizing the plugins. No idea why it opens when you open a Uad plugin.SoftSynthLover99 wrote: Sat Oct 21, 2023 3:09 amYou can easily Delete the UA connect app after you install the plugin and you won’t have the issue.
