Am i the only one who has abyssmal downloadspeed in UIV-Portal.
I wanted to try Falcon 3 this weekend but i download with 45kb/s (KILOBYTE). This is like on my old Dialup-Modem 20 years ago. I have a stable 250Mbit connection. I feel like UVI server are completly hampered.

They have definitely been improved. I'm actually quite impressed. The original factory presets were a mixed bag. There were some really brilliant sounds but a lot of filler/strange sounds that weren't for my taste (that doesn't make them bad though, somebody else might love the ones I didn't).

But in this revised factory selection I've already found quite a few that I've tagged as favorites.

Do you have special pricing, like EDU or other coupons?
The way I see it, the coupon works with list pricing.

I have the full version of all UVI stuff and I haven't had this issue before, I get no discount for 2 but if I put a 3rd in then it gives me one free!

I raised a ticket so lets see what happens.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

It gave one free! But I only want top buy 2 (the 2 new ones!)

I have no problems with 2 for 1 offer using Mac Chrome. Got my 6 expansions for €17 with the Falcon voucher. 8)

Pro tip for the presets:

You guys who think Falcon sounds a bit too sterile and cold, try disabling the maximizer/limiter within the presets. It seems to be used a lot all over the place, which is unfortunate because it does result in some sterility and congested sounds. It's not exactly a very good sounding limiter. Many of the sounds open up nicely once you remove these maximizers. Some presets have many of them in each layer!

Keep in mind that a limiter/maximizer is never a free lunch. It doesn't "just control the dynamics".. it adds harmonic distortion and intermodulation distortion. Not exactly the type of stuff you want added at the very start of your production chain.

EDIT:

and Pro Tip for preset designers:

Don't fall into the trap of relying overtly much on EQ and Compression to "fix your sound". Example: Instead of "fixing" the sound not playing nicely over the keyboard range with EQ, try using keyboard tracking instead to fix the issues at the root of the cause, for instance filter resonance and filter position. This yields much more natural results and a more coherent sound. Why? Because if you add tons of EQ nodes all over the place you are messing with the phase and the transients.. the overall impact of the sound becomes very processed which in turn results in a sound that is harder to mix later on. Or in short: It just sounds better to fix it at the core of the sound instead of post-processing.

There are a lot of presets where I count more than 5 instances (!!) of the 8 band EQ effect all over the place.

And instead of using compressors to add attack to sounds, how about using those wonderful and flexible envelopes to do it instead?

I was able to download and install the synth, but it seemed to try and redownload it afterwards and upon clicking on it, the second frozen download stopped and it installed. Then I tried downloading the presets… but it got to “0” and endlessly spun without seeming to be doing anything. After a few hours I gave up. I’m going to try it again later.

Just my take, but this happens with every popular VI, especially ones not specifically designed to emulate analog gear.

i think a lot of VSTs sound kinda like they have a sheen of sterility on them but this is because of how the presets are made. generally, i find once i get away from the presets and make my own sounds that things are a lot more interesting.. and that's not saying i make killer presets.. it's just that all the components of a sound do pretty well on their own w/o being commercialized into a consumable preset.

a lot of synths can make really rich sounding things with very simple patches. zebra can do amazing FM type stuff that is so alive and beautiful... so can FM8 and absynth and arturia's DX7 V etc..

presets often just wreck perceptions of synths.. though there's some really great ones that show what a synth can do and there's a lot in falcon that sound amazing but they're things i doubt i'd use in a song. pure sound design bliss though.

I don't think of Pigments as cold and sterile, even though it's very digital.

Massive X has never been able to release a bank of nice warm sounds. You'd think they'd have found someone to do it by now. Conclusion - plenty of people like what I think of as cold and sterile, and it doesn't hurt sales.

Falcon is weirder because it is a sampler. Just compare its factory library with Kontakt's. Kontakt has bass, guitar, acoustic and electronic drums, horns, orchestral, choirs, world instruments and yes synths - because it's a sampler. It has no "sound" I can associate with it.

Yet Falcon almost seems to forget what it is, what it can do. The factory library is almost pure digital synthesis - and indeed the new 3.0 patches appear to take 12mb between them, so it looks like there isn't a single sample at all. All in a dated perfunctory browser.

I keep going on about Patchpool's Oud mini library, simply because I haven't seen anything else like it, even from Simon. Just imagine if there were 900 instruments like that in Falcon's factory library - perception would be transformed.

The new library contains the 1,500 presets from the old one which have new macro assignments and prettier graphics. There are only “dozens of all new sounds”. I’m struggling to believe they have re-engineered the over 1,500 old ones from a sound point of view.

Are you sure the fancy new graphics aren’t having a psychoacoustic effect on your perception?

Try for yourself... it will answer your question.

But in short no.
Even in presets of same name, different sound, different songs, some time different devices.

Yeah, I can't download and install the new presets. It just shows "0" and a spinning loading ball that never goes away. When I give up it tells me I may lose progress, but I never seem to make any progress.
