This is great. Amazingly low CPU and does an awesome 303 sound too. It's also very versatile so hope we can get a huge library of presets.

Seems that when setting up more than 4 modulations for a given source, the dialogue box only shows 4 of them, no scrollbar, either.
And I think there should be a "Close" button/link in the upper right corner to close that box.
The Esc key does not close it, it closes the entire GUI.

That's short for annoying.

If one were to make presets:
a) would you want them as a Signature bank?
b) if so, what format?

:-)

May I ask a feature as well?
I'd love to be able to lock the FX states, like Hive (I always prefer to keep reverb off while browsing presets)

Checked my processor is i9 8950HK it does support SSE4.2.
Maybe a problem linked to Cubase as I saw another user with this DAW crash issue on loading Charlatan.
Cubase might have instabilities. I've had some crashes on loading UJam stuff.
I was excited to try Charlatan :(

Any chance of larger screen sizes, the gui is far too small on my surface tablet; 200%, 250%, 300% would be good. Apart from that the synth is sounding really good, and is well laid out and easy to use.

Music is the best

I'm really excited about it!
I think Charlatan2 is best sounding synth plugin ever and I loved it.
I can't even believe it's free.
Thank you for all you do, BlauKraut!

It seems that Bitwig fixed the description about Charlatan3 once it was loaded.
Now it shows as instrument - synth.
I'll try to make some patches.

Tested: 8 voice polyphony.
Given the very low CPU usage, why not 16 or 24?

- If I save a patch that uses the same name of another existing in teh same folder, no advice of erasing file is shown. It'd be great If wa start sharing presets...

- For everyone creating presets: We should start using labels before it's too late.
My suggestion:
4 characters fixed, using last ones to define the sound if needed.
PADD - Digital pad (FM, Additive...)
PADA - Analog Pad
PADS - Strings ...
BASS - General Bass
BASF - FM Bass
STAB -
LEAD -
LDFM - FM Lead
DRON
ATMO
FFXX
...

I think that is a bit too specific (and inconsistent). The usual categories are enough, use descriptive patch names instead. There are more categories: brass, guitar, arp, drums, percussion, keys...

Did you noticed the [...] symbol? I'm sure you did.
And yes, OF COURSE, everyone is free to build a full empire on shared presets.
Suggestions are not LAWS.
The use of categories allows for easy navigation using the included patch selector, easy discrimination and easier duplicate check.
So what's the incosistent point??

Well, with pads you used the D for digital, but for basses you use FM. And for basses you use only the F, while for leads you use FM. Those kinds of inconsistencies...

Duplicate check. That is exactly why I think such very specific categories make little sense, often a sound would fit in more than one category. So people will add them to several categories. Like where is the line between an analog pad and a string pad?

By the way, I think the computer's up and down arrow keys should work in the patch browser. Assuming there will be several rows on presets once there are dozens per category, the left and right arrow keys could be used to switch to the neighboring column.
And like with the modulation dialog boxes, the Esc key should close the browser. Or add a Close button/link.

Wow, a very deceptively capable synth. Thanks for setting it free! :tu:

I banged out a few presets while watching football just getting to know the architecture. I'll try to make some more tomorrow without distractions.

EDIT: I updated the previous patches and added some more. If you downloaded before please so so again.

Yes I know, I've had the original version since it was released. I was thanking him for setting this version free as it's far more capable than the original.
