Or just Pigments to get all the colors (some you didn't even know existed) in one UI.
Nah, you do not. It has a single unique color.
Ahh, so you are saying it's actually "Pigment".
But pigs are pink and mint is green, so it's actually 2 colors.

Back OT - though I've acquired dozens of synths over the years, the music I actually finish almost always has a combo of Madrona Labs Aalto, u-he Hive and/or Repro, Psychic Modulation Phonec and Ableton Operator and Simpler/Sampler. I prefer getting to know a few pieces really well, and to me more features do not necessarily make for a better instrument.

DX7's were not tedious. Well, until you tried to program them.

(waiting for the Dexed commandos to pile on with "FM is not hard or tedious!" - yeah buddies you try it on that tiny LCD using the synth buttons)

Interesting thread, with time i found out that if you have the right effects and knowledge how to use them for specific results, you can manipulate the sound in a drastic way so you can get away with simple sound source to some extend.
So in my case i would say probably 3 synths would be enough, Abyss for drones and soundscapes, Phonec 2 for wobbly pads, Chromaphone 3 for textures and percussive sounds.

If you are a minimalist or want one synth that can do a lot of things, Pigments is a great choice especially on sale for 99$.

If you can afford it, Falcon on sale for $199 could be the only synth and sampler you used.

Falcon is even more capable synth but the workflow and UI are miles behind Pigments, it is a very fiddly synth, i will take Pigments over it any day of the week.

They're both in my top ten, but to be honest, Pigments is missing some low end power. I can get bass out of it, but nothing like Falcon or Diva etc. If I'm to use one, it's got to be capable of covering everything.

Fully agree. This is incredible value for money and apart for the complex workflow, it is the end game of synths.

For simple sounds I can relate but for very complex ones, Falcon is better.
So pigments from Monday to Friday but Falcon on weekends 🤣🤣

Falcon amazes me in it's ability to simultaneously look beautiful and yet have a super clunky UI flow.

I believe he modded quite a lot of those, eventually leading to the point where none of them was working anymore. There are some Interviews of him sitting with only one synth (DX7) behind the Desk in his Studio.

:D That put a big smile on my face. Thanks

Starting with one powerful wavetable synth like Vital or Serum is an excellent choice for a beginner in electronic music production. As you progress and discover specific needs, you can expand your toolkit accordingly. Remember, it's more about how well you understand and use your tools than the quantity of tools you have.

Just one more, I only need one more.........

This one is gonna make ALL the difference....

I love Phase Plant, am actually selling Pigments (which I also love) because Phase Plant covers all my needs and I am just more productive in it, I have so many outstanding free synths I haven't even used some of them yet, and V Collection is there for all my nostalgia needs.

And I still am tempted by Falcon 3.
