No free upgrade? There's not even a Serum 2 yet, so I don't understand where "no free upgrade" comes from? And there's supposed to be a video somewhere where Steve Duda mentions that, if Serum 2 is going to be released, it's going to be free for everyone owning Serum 1.

And correct, we're building a voucher/store credit system to unlock perpetual products via the accrued store credit. It will be applicable to any products in the shop.
So would this mean, as I own all of your effects plugins, i'd get a significant discount on buying Current?

His name is Jake and he is probably on this forum. Top-notch guy with a definite passion for music and tech.

Are you sure? I thought he was the marketing manager.

Is it me or does anyone else suspect that this whole Minimal Audio subscription debacle was simply a marketing ploy to gain attention to Minimal Audio's product line?

That they backed off in less than a day informs me that this whole exercise was an intentional publicity stunt, knowing full well how it would play out after Waves tried it without the benefit of a market monopoly.

Probably.

I think they will sell a lot more now because of the attention, a lot of views, threads, videos on youtube.
Good job Minimal.

What was the definition of a false flag attack - problem, reaction, solution.
Create the problem - subscription only
Reaction - unbelievable, no, never, are they serious
Come out with solution - we are removing the subscription and now you can buy or rent to own, thanks everyone

I love that you guys think people are clever enough to dream up something like that. It’s kind of touching to see such faith in human competence, when all around is evidence that the world is run by fuckwits.

My bad then, wrong example, I thought I read the opposite (serum 2 to be paid).

Honestly, I really don't think he wanted to backpedal. When watching his apology video, his expressions and mannerisms seem to show that he's quite upset about having to ditch subscription, even though he's kinda pretending that it's a good thing.

Especially at 03:20, where he says "obviously, we can't do it without you"

Seems like it was a bit of a wakeup call for him.
I think, maybe he shoulda spent a bit more time reading these forums

And actually, they don't needed to risk doing something like that, as they were already becoming quite a big deal in many dance music circles.

But hey... maybe you're right. Money does make people act like ass-hats.
