LOL! Will do!

In all seriousness please don't let them suffer the same fate as your cypher andromeda patches.

The best way to guarantee that is to have multiple back points (you being one of them ;)).

GruvSyco wrote: Mon Oct 23, 2023 9:16 pm As an OB-X8 owner, I can tell you that compared to the OB-X8, SonicProjects OP-X Pro II (which has long been a favorite) sounds noticeably duller. Like someone EQ'd the highs out.

I can also say that OB-E (which I also have), to me, sounds like it can hold its own to the X8.
I’ve been recreating OB-X8 patches on the GForce OB-X and it’s pretty striking how similar they sound.
Really not surprising. GForce are on their game. It won’t be able to do everything the X8 can because of the CEM filters but, honestly, I like the SEM filters so much better. With OB-E and SEM, I haven’t fired up my TVSpro in quite some time.

It’s just a matter of time before I’m sure I have OB-X too.

DashOfLime wrote: Mon Oct 23, 2023 1:26 pm As to Roland I don't think you're listening very closely (or at all). Their emulations are very good. SH-2 emulation for instance is dead-on with the hardware unit I have. Given how good the SH-2 is I have little reason to expect that any of the others aren't just as close.
I've long suspected their ACB mono synths dedicate the full processing of the "ACB chip" to a single voice. Whereas as the ACB poly synths have the same amount of processing power, but suddenly have to make it work with 8 voices so sound compromises get made. I have no proof of that. But to me, those early Roland mono synths (Pro-Mars, SH-2) sound terrific and the poly synths sound flat.
I would hope that the System-8 had more power than the System-1 (3 DSP chips vs 2 in the System-1 and pretty sure they're the next generation as they're also used for the ZEN stuff). I just don't find that the polys sound flat.

All that said it appears the "Bye Bye Love" was named appropriately as they have been banned  That was quick.

I don't know whether they know about this one. I've already reported one bug* but will do some more testing and report this one to them as well.

* The delay module sometimes gets initialised incorrectly when switching between presets and produces a low level constant DC signal if the feedback has no HPF applied.

I mailed them today and got this reply:
We may well do but I'm not exactly sure when. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer immediately. Best regards, Chris

I like to think I speak for a (somewhat) younger generation of synthesists who arrived on the scene during the late 90s and early 2000s and are very interested in vintage sounds and gear but don't always have a clear idea what those old patches sounded like and how the original experience of the hardware "felt" back in the day. For this reason, I think the preservation and recreation of those old factory patches is essential for maintaining the sonic zeitgeist of vintage sounds. A lot of people have complained that too many of the alpha patches are too modern and don't embody the same character that made the original instrument so wildly popular in the first place. Of course that's the case. We're too young. We simply don't have the context. So, I definitely hope GForce provides it for us.

I'm a big fan of GForce synth plugins and Dave Spiers as a person of integrity and substance (who is obviously extremely intelligent and often quite funny). Other than the OB-E, I own all of the GForce synth plugins.

But let's get real. As nice as the GForce OB-X sounds, it's no replacement for an OB-X8. Not even close.

I swear, most modern musicians are so embarrassingly uninformed and tone deaf that they wouldn't appreciate a great sounding synth if it smacked them upside the head.

Of course, few people can afford a $5,000 OB-X8. But let's not kid ourselves into desperately believing that a synth plugin can match its sound.

I didn't realize I needed to post over 3,000 times to say something incontrovertibly true. Quality not quantity, my friend.

I just did a search and it appears that Dave Spiers is not a member of KVR. To his credit, I suppose he has better things to do than read the batshit crazy, conspiratorial ravings of pathetic losers.
