I play guitar with some friends, none of who are drummers. We also have to play quietly to keep the neighbours happy. So I have made a drum machine using the FCB1010 and by replacing the internal Microcontroller with a Teensy and audio board. This video shows how it works. Great for practicing the multitude of tracks we play.
Features:
Different Styles of Beat and BPM.
Optional Song Count in.
Expression Pedal for changing complexity of beat
Expression Pedal for adding humanity (Probability of certain extra beats)

Interesting. Why that route (new 'brain') rather than translating the existing MIDI messages from the FCB?

I had already converted the FCB1010 to a synth for something to do during Covid lockdowns and wasn't using it. What I like is that I don't need anything else except an amp to make sounds. Also I have full control of the software and can modify it as I feel I need to, which has happened several times already.
I also like that only one box is needed to be transported.
