I always prefer the original. I don't care about sound quality or production. The original always has something special.BONES wrote: Sat Oct 28, 2023 12:52 amI don't see that as reason to want to recreate it so precisely. I've got a repertoire of 60 or more 80s covers and I have felt no need at all to make them sound exactly like the originals. Quite the opposite, my aim is to try and make them sound even better, using modern synths and production techniques that weren't available at the time. Surely that's how a creative mind works?Odd Fella wrote: Fri Oct 27, 2023 4:47 pmMost people like the times when they were young, the stuff they had back then, the music they listened to etc. It is totally normal. I am an extreme case of that.It can sound nasal but it will sound different with different filter types and also depending on how you use it. As I said, it's what gives a filter its character. If it was a particular sound, then a lot of synths would sound lot more alike than they do.To me resonance is definitely a particular sound, it sounds nasal to me.I'll make something and post it up separately.I never know what you mean by bass with a lot of resonance. Do you have an example?I've never heard it before in my life. Haven't heard of the artist, either. It definitely has all the cliche elements of the era, though. It's very much not my thing, though, so any subtle differences will be completely lost on me.Well, that "piss" is a classic song from the 70's.I don't own either, although I have demo'd Sylenth 1 on several occasions. But try this - turn the cutoff up to maximum and listen to what you get. Now turn the cutoff all the way down to zero, then use the mod matrix to open it. Even at the maximum modulation value, the filter will not be open 100%. I find that annoying when I am trying to make a patch. Not sure what you mean. Sylenth1 has a very bright filter to begin with, compared to Diva's for instance.
In terms of resonance, synths do sound very similar to me.
Some synth even have that nasal sound with resonance turned to zero. Seems some resonance is hardwired into them. It is always that typical nasal sound character.
I still like that old music. It is not meant to appeal to people today. Every generation has its music.
Again, it is more complicated in Sylenth1. It has a very wide frequency spectrum and you can move a wide window within that spectrum with the help of that global cutoff knob. And the layer cutoff knob and modulations work within that window.
I have never encountered a situation where that window was not wide enough.
So when you say, turn the cutoff to min, you actually have to turn two cutoff knobs to min, the same goes for the max.
Looking forward to your resonance bass...

It always bothers me when a video is overly slick like that. Too much production value. Also, way too much time spent demoing, not enough commentary.

By the time you put your script together, you run out of the demo periodUncle E wrote: Sat Oct 28, 2023 7:53 pm It always bothers me when a video is overly slick like that. Too much production value. Also, way too much time spent demoing, not enough commentary.
