Hi everyone.

I have a question about getting academic discounts. I was interested in getting plugs from PSP, Camel Audio, and Sonalksis, all of whom offer a 50% academic discount. I'm technically faculty at a medical school and have an academic ID. Will this suffice to get the academic discounts? I mean, do companies really care what sort of academic affiliation you have? None of the websites specify any particular kind of academic affiliation.

Do any folks have experience with this sort of thing? I've never tried to use my academic affiliation to get music software. I know I should ask the companies themselves, but I need to decide whether to go for the Sonalksis group buy like in the next few hours or so.

Any personal experience about this would be helpful. Happy Holidays. Fa la la la la la la la la.
 La.

Academic Discounts: Does the type of institution matter?

yes,if your in a mental institution it doesnt count.

Each company might have different criteria, so you'd have to ask to find out. Sorry, I know that doesn't help.

*ponder* You might consider doing some work on using music to lift patients' spirits and help the healing process? =^_^=

To help you out cobalt...... well, I'm not really sure if I'm the right man for that. But I did buy an academic version of Sampletank 2 XL from audiomidi.com and all I provided was my student Id. They didn't really seem to care, so as long as you email them a picture that looks kind of official, you might be all right. Or not.

Just give it a try.

Meffy is right. Companies have different policies. Just ask. For example: soundsonline offers ed discounts only if the software will be used in a school or education setting. No other use is authorized. Other companies offer discounts to teacher or students, and some offer discounts to religious institutions.

Interestingly, I actually work in an institution. Now that I think about it, I do some research in which we record short audio samples. It would be a stretch to say that I need a dynamic EQ and multiband compressor for this purpose, or, even more so, an additive synth. But, whatever. I'll tell them I'm researching the effects of the Vintage Warmer on brain function or something.

I know what I really need is someone to tell me, "Sonalksis will be happy to give you an academic discount," and that that's probably not going to happen today. But, whatever.

Thanks for the responses so far. I welcome more suggestions or random comments.

HI

I recently got a 50% discount from the wonderfull people at WAVE ART's on producing a scan of my college ID - I am not a student or a teacher, in this case they give the discount to anyone employed or attending such institutions; some dev's only give the discount to lecturers/teachers or students.

Flipper.

I have a college ID with a great photo of me looking just like a smiling, beneficent Sunday-school mashiach.

... but that was taken almost a third of a century ago. *9.9* I still look kind of Jesus-y, but more like a Byzantine pankrator. And me not a Christian. Go figure.

I'm a university faculty member and got a discount at Academic superstore for simply providing a copy of my employment letter.

I e-mailed Sonalksis a couple of days ago to ask them about educational discount - I'm studying music, though - and they haven't answered yet, so I signed-up for the group buy - I was only interested in the SV-315, so the difference was small anyway.

Academic superstore is a great place I woul use it if I needed academic software.

I recently got hired doing SMS administration, which means I get a (legitamate)license to any application that my company has. :hyper: I have to test the install packages to make sure that they will install on different platforms...

Thanks for the help. For the time being, I went in on the Sonalksis group buy. Their website says something about the academic discount being up to 50%, which didn't sound very promising for me. But I'll check out the other suggestions for other stuff. Thanks again, and Happy New Year!
