It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

Arturia's is probably the best. It pops up and tells you when there's an update.
PA's is probably the worst. It has no idea what version you have or if there's been an update.

Studio One tells you if there are any updates from PreSonus at launch.

Well... gotta do some things yourself. There's no way around that.

PA is the best and Arturia the worst. The latter drove me mental until I worked out how to turn it off.

The only time I ever need to update my plugin is if something no longer works, not just because the version number increased by 0.01

Some people probably abide by no updates until they encounter a problem or a major revision. That would be the path of least resistance.

Many updates can be entirely skipped and reading release notes is well worth the effort, for those good developers who provide them prominently. Couldn't say why they all don't do it. Laziness? Lack of attention to detail? Lack of realizing they are useful and that some users actually read them?

A checklist isn't the worst plan. For the bulk installers/updaters like those jamcat listed, I will just run through each installer during my update check, maybe every other month or a few times a year. I like the devs who send emails and stack those in a folder until I act on them. I tend to update check all the plugins of a given vendor, for those who don't have a bulk installer, so I can uplift the entire catalog in one swoop.

Definitely follow the rule of thumb of not updating in the middle of a project, unless necessary to fix a problem you are experiencing, just because you don't want to introduce a new problem when you are likely time/attention constrained.

Why do you need updates for plug-ins? When it's not broken never change a running system (when its not security related).

That's why I'm still making music on a Commodore 64.

Sometimes people add new features, that's why. For example, if you've never updated your Valhalla Delay or Valhalla Vintage Verb plugins, you're missing out on a LOT of new features for probably no reason other than laziness (exception: professional studios, but, then, they should have redundancies and backups etc.).

Bug fixes only? Generally don't need to update unless you're one running into the bug(s).

As for me, I just check all the dev sites of the plugins I have about once per month or maybe two. I don't track anything, but I do keep the most recent version saved locally so I can compare when I download a new version (or a version that may be new).

I have always wondered why there wasn’t an update thread on here or GS.

This friggin site does this, come on people. Right now it's notifying me that 12 plugins are updated, including Infiltrator. Click the top left hamburger, then MyKVR, the for me it's view updates.

There is. It's a core function of this site.

I use it all the time but it is way out of date and not every plugin developer is there. Plus you have to manually add your plugins. I have over 1000 plugs to keep an eye on.
I was thinking like the deals thread that just keeps rolling 🤷‍♂️

Arturia pop up alerts aren't so nice when you're working on a project.

Start a thread and keep it updated. See if it gains tractions. Be the change you want to see :)
