Does he like this synth? Just wondering, because it seems it does not completely close the filter with full envelope modulation, either, which he said he dislikes in Sylenth1...
Off-topic here, but I asked Lennard about it years ago and still have the old email where he explains it.

He said since a 12dB low pass filter has a 12 dB per octave slope, and if the lowpass frequency is e.g. 30 Hz, then it will have around 12dB reduction at 60 Hz, 24 dB at 120 Hz, etc. So you'd still hear some sound at low cutoff frequencies.

Anyway, back to OB-X.

Very nice tutorial was just released few hours ago:

Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

This is more like "how to use a subtractive synth" tutorial.

Post

It is a subtractive synth! What did you expect?!

X-Modulators

Post

Yeah for me it wasn't useful at all and I got bored watching it..
But I am glad he did it cause I am sure there will be some people who will get something out of it.

X-Modulators
He said he'd deal with those in a separate video right at the beginning.

When I was starting out with my SH-09 in the early '80s I would have loved a video like this. The Roland manual was very dry and not noob friendly at all, I had no idea wtf oscs, filter, envelopes or modulators were.

Post

Yeah, I started watching the video and thought, "ugh...this is for total noobs!" But then I thought, "but hey, I was a total noob too once and this would've been great."

What was I hoping for? Not sure to be honest. Maybe some advanced sound design ideas or something. Like, an in-depth explanation of how the advanced modulators work and some tips on how to get the most out of them with some ideas on what they can be used for.

X-Modulators take 10 seconds to explain.

I think you may be underestimating them.

they actually are pretty simple, though. powerful. but simple.

I'm pretty sure that applying an envelope to an envelope segment (for one example) is some type of recursive function.
I can use them, and get great results, but I think it would take more than 10 seconds for someone to explain to me exactly what is happening there, so that I understand it enough to be able to explain it to someone else.

At the end of the day, like most tutorials or videos, it will be useful for some people and not for others.
