this is a problem that goes back at least 15-20 years for me. Windows and Mac.
I don't get this problem any more, i think it might be related to having a USB soundcard,
or some USB device? I just vaguely remember the Cubase quit hang, and removing the USB device then cubase would close properly? from memory. Could also try closing all projects first, then close the program.??

Sorry, but I’ve never experienced this issue on Mac or Atari STE before that.sqigls wrote: Sat Oct 28, 2023 1:17 am this is a problem that goes back at least 15-20 years for me. Windows and Mac.

We always close project first but strangely, windows does display a message about a usb issue occasionally, not just when cubase is running, not been able to pinpoint as yet but will try and get that sorted n see if it helps.

more common on Windows i think, at least in my personal experience, and the experience of producers i know. but it did happen to me for a short while on my 2012 macbook pro, and happened frequently for a friend who ran a virus snow and some other DSP via USB.Atlatnesiti wrote: Sun Oct 29, 2023 9:46 amSorry, but I’ve never experienced this issue on Mac or Atari STE before that.sqigls wrote: Sat Oct 28, 2023 1:17 am this is a problem that goes back at least 15-20 years for me. I've had that too on Windows 11. If I use the menu and close the project first and then quit Cubase/Nuendo, the crash often does not happen. If I quit without closing the project, it crashes more often. If I have multiple projects open, it crashes most every time. So, I try to stick to only one project open at a time.

Looks like version 13 fixes this, along with generally making the whole thing much nicer to use.

Every single time someone says "looks like version 10, 10.5, 11, 12, 13 fixed the crashing on exit" thing, it is never fixed. I used to believe this, and I would dutifully spend my $$ on the next update, and the next. Steinberg *always* blames this on other vendors.
This has been part of the conversation since easily 2016, and you can see this by searching their forums for keywords. This, and the internal ASIO overload (hyperthreading, speedstep, etc) issue that exists on certain platforms are show-stoppers for me.

There is a new dialog with Cubase 13 when you close a project... something like "Console is unloading"... I just noticed that today. Probably something was really changed and it could have to do with the "crash on exit" problem. Well, I'm curious about that!

At VI-Control a few Windows users of Cubase have mentioned that Cubase 13 closes a lot more quickly now than Cubase 12, without the need to kill it in the Task Manager.
Edit: But that seems like the kind of thing that should have been included in a bug-patch point-release update.

13 is the first version I've used since 8.5 that doesn't give me the "crash on exit" bug/dialog/pop up box, etc. It's always something I jut put up with. Overall, it opens/closes and handles much faster than the last several versions. At least on Windows 10.

Pretty sure it has to do with the new window handling.Resonant- Serpent wrote: Sat Nov 04, 2023 2:15 pm 13 is the first version I've used since 8.5 that doesn't give me the "crash on exit" bug/dialog/pop up box, etc.
