Why do the companies that make synthesizers put effects on them? to end up getting turned off by the mixing engineer When you go to a recording studio, the engineer asks you to turn off all the effects on your synthesizer. when i record in my daw should i also disable the effects of my korg m1 vst i dont understand because the effects are a crucial part of sound designing in the m1 patches and almost every important synth

As far as I can tell based on previous discussions here, when it comes to EQ, compression and reverb the answer is "to make presets sound more impressive".

I wouldn't switch off chorus on a Juno, for example, as this is an key part of the sound and hard to match/improve with other studio effects.

it's your song?
you should have final say?
the sound engineers work for you?
not the other way around?

for example,
if you are a guitarist, you might already use a lot of effects?
wah wah, flanger, distortion, etc?
you might be a modern jimmi hendrix?
you compose songs, from the start, with the use of effects?

It depends whether the effect is integral to the sound (juno chorus) or merely window dressing to please players when they are not in a studio. Not requiring external effects, having all in one box is a good thing.

But I totally understand a recording engineer asks to switch off the reverb if you have dialled in a bog-standard piano patch. He has far better reverbs than what's baked in. And this way he can decide what levels are needed for good balance.

Sure the player can say no: this is how it sounds, so record it exactly how it is please.

Should you record with or without effects? I think you know the answer already. If they are perfect for the job and you know their level is exactly as should be, then by all means record your baked in effects.
Whenever slightly in doubt: switch them off so you can postpone final decisions (which does not always help to get things done quickly)
