This might be jumping the gun, but I recently discovered the free Sabrina reverb...
https://plugins4free.com/plugin/3357/
Love the sound and it also cascades really well for when you just need maawwwrrr!!
Anyway, it seems that when you turn the recycle knob all the way up it basically goes into infinity mode. Have to test this to be sure, but from what I heard it's about as close to freeze as can be.
I prefer a dedicated button for automation, but this is free, and amazingly it's both 32 and 64 bit. Enjoy boys n girls! It reminds me of Redline Reverb somehow, but that could just be fuzzy memory on my part. Anyway, this one is very sweet

There's also the hold function in adaptiverb which freezes the input signal, allows you to save it and then apply that to some other input signal.
Also I think Adaptiverb is the only Reverb that allows you to save the freeze as a preset.

Ambiance just never sounded good to my ears. That characteristic dirty treble so common in old plugins.
However, Stonevoices Ambient reverb is at home in this topic.

You can be creative in any right place on Earth, and not only in the wealthiest cities. Bring the world feelings from everywhere, and not only feelings of capitalistic or jail environment.

Not a reverb, but FabFilter Timeless 3 also would fit, no?
Out of curiosity: how do people use the freeze function. Automate a toggle from your DAW to fill gaps between parts?
Are there more tricks to it, that I don't see?
