+1

And I'm wondering if the endless amount of technology and options might be a core reason for that.

Who cares?

I mean that seriously. Big flagship stadium stars are the model of the past. There's still stuff like Muse there if you still want that. The wide availability of (frankly) much more interesting music than '70s rock that we have today is entirely there due to the availability of the tools you are deriding.

Ironically, none of us could afford the kind of gear used on these albums if it weren’t for modern DAW’s.

Plus, the reason artists no longer blossom to that level is economics more than anything else. Blame Spotify, not virtual instruments.

Again, he's not wrong he is just stuck in the past. Is there anything decent being made now? Not really, just enjoy whatever you like doing, it doesn't have to be like Pink Floyd.

Bippo wrote: Sun Nov 05, 2023 1:10 am Lets admit it: modern music is mostly rubbish.
The vast majority of the greatest hits in popular music were created way before the invention of digital instruments.
Alternatively, let's admit it: modern music is in many ways the best it's ever been.

Constantly evolving, globe wide music accessible by all, better produced, most virtuoso musicians ever, better learning tools than ever.

And of course in answer to your main question:

NO

Never take away any instruments from anyone.
ROFLOLMAO.
You disagreed with me but essentially you agree.
Does "Constantly evolving, globe wide music accessible by all, better produced, most virtuoso musicians ever, better learning tools than ever" means better, more inspiring music?

The 2010s is probably one of the most uninspired decades in the history of popular music.
Try to name 10 artists or albums that were groundbreaking in any way shape or form, then compare it to 60's through 90's music and be honest with yourself, what will and what will not stand the test of time.

I never said that modern music is not better produced, nor did I intended to "take away" your instruments

Lol what an absurd level of toxicity and bitterness in the comments section...don't be afraid, the music police won't knock at your door and take away your vsts.
Chill.
I think if you are going by 'hits' then yes it's getting more and more churned out mass produced shite, but there is plenty of fantastic and exciting music being created, especially in the creative explorations between between jazz, electronic music and experimental classical

It seems that Bippo is stuck in his childhood.

Times change. You won't find another Dark Side of the Moon or Thriller, because those times have passed. Amazing albums, true, but that doesn't automatically disqualify today's albums.

There's a whole world of music outside of the top 100 charts for you to discover, and you can't tell me that none of them are good. That's statistically impossible.

Post

I guess I'm one of the few lucky buggers that watched Pink Floyd live doing the entire Dark Side Of The Moon set. Good times.

Maybe one guitar and one external keyboard is all I need.
No doubt you also walked away from your modern, rubbish DAW and booked time at Abbey Road to record your Dark Side of the Moon-like masterpiece.

Here's a bunch of albums from the 2010s that I consider great.

YMMV.

Father John Misty ‘I Love You, Honeybear’

John Prine ‘The Tree of Forgiveness’

The Black Keys ‘Brothers’

Janelle Monáe ‘Dirty Computer’

D’Angelo ‘Black Messiah’

Vampire Weekend ‘Modern Vampires of the City’

Radiohead ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’

Daft Punk ‘Random Access Memories’

Alabama Shakes ‘Boys & Girls’

David Bowie, ‘Blackstar’

Frank Ocean: Blonde

There is something liberating with knowing that you have a limited amount of options.
I swear I didn't feel so free in a long time.
Basically, your arguments are totally subjective.

You've taken a step away from virtual instruments and feel free.

You do you....
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.

So much good post-rock and post-metal in the 2010s.
So much good electronica.
It's not the music's fault if one couldn't have been arsed to find it.

Here's a start:
