Thanks, I am able to load 32 and 64 bit vst3 plugins now in my 32 bit Reaper4 without paying for unwanted upgrades!

Hi polac, have you considered creating an adaptor the other way around (VST2 to VST3)? I guess something like that would be needed soon, as some hosts such as Cubase and Nuendo will stop supporting VST2 in not much more than a year (as announced by Steinberg themselves).

Hello. Thank you for this amazing utility. Works very well in RX8 that doesn't natively support VST3. However doesn't work in EqualizerAPO, editor throws some runtime error "memory can't be read xxxx" coulld there anything be done about it ? if possible.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

I had posted about the issue of loading VST's inside EqualizerAPO (maybe on the EAPO sourceforge thread?), and I recall it being an issue with EAPO itself: very few VST's I could get to load.ceo54 wrote: Mon Nov 27, 2023 2:01 pm Hello. Hi,in the DAW I (still) use , Orion Platinum by Synapse Audio , I am also stuck not being able to open the VST3 plugin I wanna try out (Spiral Delay, which comes only w vst3 , https://www.davisynth.com/product/spiral-delay/ (https://www.davisynth.com/product/spiral-delay/))
I followed the simple install instructions, copied over all files in the VST2 folder ,
and then I also dropped the VST3 dll in there, did a rescan in my DAW at startup.
In VST selection I do not see Spiral Delay included, I only see vst3shell ... and when I insert that I just get an empty window... and no UI that lets me browse or select the VST3.
Should any VST3 appear as plugins or instruments themselves?
Thanks already for any help you can give, as I'm really excited if this would work (then no need for me to learn a new DAW ...

I had the same problem with reaper
I load the vst3 to vst2 adapter first in savihost 32 bit and 64 bit, that shows a list of available vst3s you have(may need to be in programfiles/commonfiles/vst3).
then after savihost i find them listed in reaper as 32 and 64 bit vst2 files.

I got to run Spiral Delay VST3 in Savihost ... but then afterwards still I don't see in my DAW (Orion Platinum)
I'd like to try that exe way (to convert and really generate a Spiral Delay VST2 style dll file ... (at least that's how I understood was a possibility)
but the zip's that are given do not contain an executable file ...

You may need to rescan for new plugins in Orion.
In reaper I had to select "clear cache and scan for new plugins" which starts looking from the very beginning, it doesnt retain any plugin memory from before. This is probably the necessary step to look for.
Also forgot to mention when installing new vst3 plugins you need to first delete savihosts registry entries by opening regedit and going to user/software and delete seib.
Then opening vst3 to vst2 adapter in savihost finds the new vst3s.

Thanks for the tips , but I did do the explicit rescan in Orion (already 5 times)... still the VST3 plugin does not appear (after having been opened in savihost).
Can anyone reading this share a copy of that vst3shell.exe that was mentioned earlier in the thread? (Which could generate a vst2 style dll from drag&dropping a .vst3 file onto it, if I understood correct)

Ive already explained this a bit at viewtopic.php?p=8627637#p8627637
A shell plugin looks like a single plugin, but actually contains multiple different plugins. To use, you insert the shell, then set it to be the plugin you want to use.
shell2vst is a pair (32-bit and 64-bit) of executables that converts a VST2 'shell' plugin that you drop onto them into a folder full of individual VST2 plugins.
EdwinJacobs was asking for vst3shell.exe, but there's no such thing. The vst3shell.dll family are a set of four VST2 shell plugins (effect and instrument, in 32-bit and 64-bit) each of which allows you to access all your VST3 plugins of that type.
Link for vst3shell plugins, is in the first post of this thread.

Actually, yes. Edwin Jacobs was asking to generate a vst2 style dll:whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:21 pm

If you drop the 'vst3shell' or 'vsti3shell' onto the 'shell2vst' it will create vst2 style dll's for all his VST3 plugins/instruments.EdwinJacobs wrote: Fri Dec 01, 2023 3:17 pm generate a vst2 style dll from drag&dropping a .vst3 file onto it
It works, as this is exactly what I do with Avid Sibelius which only hosts VST2 plugins/instruments

Actually no. You're not reading properly. As I have said, there is no such thing as vst3shell.exe. You linked to the download for shell2vst.exe.Justin M wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 1:49 pmActually, yes.whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:21 pm

shell2vst not vst3shell. wrong name; wrong number, wrong way round for conversion.
Yes I know. From a vst3. shell2vst, which is what you linked to, cannot do that. it only handles vst2 shell plugins.Edwin Jacobs was asking to generate a vst2 style dll:
The link you provided, to shell2vst.exe does not do what he asks, it does not generate a vst2 style dll from drag and dropping a .vst3 on it.EdwinJacobs wrote: Fri Dec 01, 2023 3:17 pm generate a vst2 style dll from drag&dropping a .vst3 file onto it
I'll say it again. shell2vst.exe, which you linked to, generates a set of vst2 style dlls from drag and dropping a vst2 shell .dll on it.
vst2 shell. not vst3.
Please read my posts properly as I said exactly that, in the post I linked to, from over 14 months ago.If you drop the 'vst3shell' or 'vsti3shell' onto the 'shell2vst' it will create vst2 style dll's for all his VST3 plugins/instruments.
I'll repeat, being about as explicit as its possible to be. Please read carefully.
1) vst3shell.dll is a vst2 plugin, not a vst3 plugin. There is no vst3shell.exe. shell2vst.exe is what you use, and it does not convert vst3 into vst2, it converts vst2 shells into individual plugins.
2) You cannot generate a vst2 style dll from drag&dropping a .vst3 file onto vst3shell.exe because it doesnt exist, and you cannot generate a vst2 style dll from drag&dropping a .vst3 file onto shell2vst.exe because it doesnt handle vst3 files.
3) the vst3shell.dll is a vst2 shell plugin, not a vst3 plugin. it gives you access to your vst3 plugins within the shell. you can generate multiple vst2 style dlls, from the vst3shell.dll vst2 plugin, by dropping it on shell2vst.exe.
