The 'song' is an unfinished dirge. It has significance to Paul because he said John's last words to him the last time they saw each other were "think of me now and then, old friend." So, Paul is convinced the song is to him. That is why it was so important for him to do it. During the original 1994-95 recording sessions, George walked out when they tried to do something with this song.
