i posed a complaint on an NI instagram post about the ad in the kontakt gui and got this response:

so, that's like 50% better but not 100% better.

Post

I bet you €5 you’ll have to re-hide it every time you open Kontakt 😅

I mean, you can collapse it and save the current view as a default already. (standalone remembers last state)
But I worry their upcoming solution is not disabling it a 100% either. Maybe it will be something similar to having it collapsed all the time, but still occupying some space. Let's see.

Nah. They've said - it's a new preference to not have it show for people who don't want it. They got it.

Never ceases to amaze me how fast people are to jump up and down at bad news and how slow they are to recognise good news.

Sure. In this case the difference in recognising either is obviously, because one thing is already there and the other not yet. So we can only wait and then talk about it.
But essentially I'm on your side and mostly optimistic about it.

I would hardly say all this wasted development time and the way NI are prioritising things is ‘good news’, we can now manually turn off advertising we didn’t want in the first place. Wooo.

That's it right there. That's the attitude.

Are NI now about to become a paragon of virtue? No. Do they realise they pushed aggressive advertising too far and their customers don't want it? Yes. Is that good that they listened? Yes.

Again, there's no developers left if you take insult at every wrong-headed decision. Every developer is a business, whose job it is to make money. Every single one. And most of them, at some point or another, will make what we consider to be a mistake. As in life, I like those who admit their mistakes and try to make amends.

While that's true in small companies, developers don't get to make the 'decisions' in the bigger ones, and often not even in the smaller. It becomes product owners, or the CTO. Even in a small company, it's often the business owner/founder who makes the decisions, not the developer.

Yes, I'm being pedantic about the word 'developer', because many people conflate programmer with the person holding the 'vision' and in most cases that's really not how it is. I guarantee that none of the programmers at NI were suggesting putting adverts in... likely someone in marketing asked 'would it be possible to put ... outreach marketing.. on the UI' and the next thing you know.. adverts.

(I may be wrong, but in my experience where I've seen this happen multiple times, that's how it goes).

tl;dr - don't blame the 'developer', blame the company and sales/marketing.

I like companies that don’t think it’s a good idea to build an advertising platform in paid products. It is better it can be hidden, but it’s still a mistake to add it…making amends for me would be to remove it completely. It’s still worse than it was in my opinion, I have nothing to be grateful for, but as I said, this is trend with NI, it’s about the whole thread, not just adding advertising that can now be hidden.

I hope that NI can get back on track and get their ship together because the truth is that they do make some great products 👍🌞🙏

I'm hoping for that some developer will sense the business opportunity and provide some alternatives. Nothing is more sobering than the prospect of a competitor waltzing in starting to eat up your profits.

Not updated since Komplete 12, have I missed anything worth having? Pretty much the only thing I use on a daily basis out of the whole lot is Raum, and that was a freebie. Its shame that the latest controller does not come with Komplete built in, no need for a computer. That might be interesting if it was up-dateable.

I am sure UVI/Falcon will have some people move over....Falcon now on V3 and every update has been free.

I also hope NI turn it around (I have Ultimate, KK Mk2 and Machine hardware, I'm invested) but it seems to be getting worse not better, paid updates for very little improvements, nothing but more sample based instruments for many years. It's not the developers, its the direction.

I've been clean of NI products for about six months. How about you? It's okay, we're all helping each other with our addictions.
