Ancient Barry White stuff, I heard it has been sampled a lot, which does not suprise me, it has "sample me!" written all over it...

The Chico Hamilton quintet, featuring Eric Dolphy and Dennis Budimir on guitar who passed away in January of this year at the age of 84.

Anyone familiar with his time with the Wrecking Crew might recall that he recorded with just about everybody in the LA music scene back in the day, from Zappa's Lumpy Gravy to many pop acts like the Partridge Family. :hail:

The new Red and Blue. Very good imho (apart from the lazy 'Now and Then' production).
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

I really need to listen to The Necks. I really like Tony Buck's project with Magda Mayas (Spill), and I like his playing on everything else I've heard him on, and I've read a bit about The Necks (was recently browsing the ReR Megacorp sale, and there are many kind words about them there) but I just haven't gotten around to them. Is there anyplace you'd recommend starting?

As you can probably tell, their back catalogue is huge, but I think a good starting point are the albums Hanging Gardens, Drive By, and Aether. I wouldn't say that they are representative of their sound; rather that all three represent an idea that they are exploring (yeah, I know, but I can't think of a way that is less pretentious!). However live, their stuff is totally improvised. Apparently sometimes their first meetup of the evening is when they walk on stage, so it can be very different to the records - someone expecting slinky coffee-table breakbeats might end up with dissonant clicks and whirls accompanied by sawing bass and piano stabs.

^Thanks, I'll check those out.
