Has the timestretching quality improved in Live 4?

I have live 4 and whatever loops I throw at it sound good. Pitch and tempo changes of guitar samples work flawlessly IMO. String loops and other single instruments pitch up and down and stretch without artifacts within reason as far as I've experienced.

I suppose it depends on what you want to do. If you want to fit loops to the correct tempo and key then I think Live 4 is very capable. I have never found this a problem. If you want to create radical pitching tempo fx then I would use something like RePhrase or some other specialist pitch/timestretch plugin.

Live is for getting everything in time and correct pitch IMO. I don't use it to create extreme pitch/timestretch FX.

By the way Leapfrog's Justin when are you going to have a group buy or do a holiday discount for us? :D

If you can pay 4 times the cost of a single DAW program, for a plug, why even bother with Live? Simply, not a comparison... If Live was as good at timestretching or anything else, why would people pay 20k for a ProTools system...??

Live is as good at time stretching, people pay rediculous amounts of money because they think it makes them a pro.

I don't think you can buy it seperately though? Only in a bundle... $1800. or more... I may be wrong, but otherwise it's native, which would mean the full ProTools system... Uh, big bucks! The musician's bundle is $200. but that's about it for reasonably priced stuff...

I don't see the point in comparing a specialist timestretching plugin with Live. Live/Sonar/Acid and every other host that uses timestretching will never compare to the high end plugins.

Live for me is about throwing together loops and creating a track for jamming live. It works on this level very well and is used by thousands of musicians/DJ's all over the world for this very purpose.

If optimum timestretching/pitch shifting is needed then some of the high end plugins already mentioned are more appropriate.

well for one pitch n time is barely twice the cost of live4 not 4 times. And it works even with Pro Tools free which isn't 20 grand. If your eally think Alco that Live's timsteretching (remember I am going by Version 3) is as good as the Waves or serato, you are wrong. i offered to post demo's reflecting this. I'll even download the Live 4 demo to do so.
I don't need you to confirm your own opinions, you can do that through words.

I simply don't agree. "good" is a subjective term, the only way you can prove factually what you say is true is by resorting to specifications, but even they don't prove 100% that something performs better than something else. They only prove what its capable of, in the right hands though, Dance Ejay can be better than Cubase SX 3!!

Even if you posted demos, who's to say that I would agree that what you say is better is actually better? I might hear it and think "nah, he's wrong. That other one is better" ... we all hear subjectively, there is no getting around that.

You say Live 4 sounds shit, I say it sounds great. Wheres the evidence to corroborate either of our opinions??

There isn't any.

Another 2 cents from me: Quality certainly isn't up to par with high end offline stretchers but cpu-performance wise Live's algos are definitely freaky-fuckin-awesome...
