Looks like ableton have noticed now that some (many?) people switch to bitwig from ableton, or new Users going straight to bitwig instead to them. And with this update they give people less reasons to go the bitwig route. Bitwig has so many cool features, so its great seeing ableton implementing them aswell.

If there was any DAW Ableton was taking inspiration from in this update, it's much more FL Studio and its piano roll than any modularity from Bitwig.

I've not gone through an Ableton version upgrade yet having purchased Live 11 suite on these boards last year. I want to take advantage of the "limited time" 20% off pre order for the upgrade

does this "limited time offer" run up to release date which is stated as early 2024? I want to buy it on payday at the end of the month using Paypals pay in 3 thingy.

EDIT: found my answer in the small print
Offer is available at Ableton.com and at local resellers from now until the release of Live 12.

It feels like 11 was out yesterday.Or maybe im just going insane. Either way this looks like a fun update. I hope it's not too pricey.

The mixer view with arrangement shown is something I've wanted for a looong time. Nice MIDI updates also. No auto wav record :(

Yes, no money for an upgrade from me until they provide this.

Are you safe?

It depends on users' reasons. I switched to Bitwig because even without all of the bells and whistles like the Grid, MIDI Operators and deep, native modulation system etc., it's still the better DAW imo. Features like per clip bounce, place and multiclip fading, clips as containers for events, plugin sandboxing, full signal path PDC and so on, aren't very sexy but they make for a much better basic DAW experience and in the end, I believe that counts for more then esoteric features and shiny new toys, the latter Ableton already has a well-earned reputation for providing.

I think the new MIDI updates are fantastic and finally Ableton is doing something with their browser. Hallelujah! Tagging! Amazing.

But still. When watching the Sonicstate video I felt exactly like Nick looked like. Where's the beef? I mean... it felt a bit meagre for a full update. Maybe it's just me.

Does this apply to Ableton's Macros as well? Always bugged me that once you map a parameter to a macro you can't edit it on the original control.

Looks a bit meagre to me too tbh, especially after 2.5 years of development. Look at the Live 12 feature list and then the Bitwig 5.0 and 5.1 release notes and it looks pretty lean by comparison. If you purchased/renewed for v5 in June, you've still got another 7 months updates, in which time Bitwig could easily squeeze in a 5.2 update if they wanted to. If 5.2 is as big or bigger than 5.1, then that's a hell of a lot of features implemented in a single year, for 30e less than Ableton are asking to upgrade to 12 now.

Very underwhelming upgrade, this should have been 11.5 update.

To all the Bigwig fanboys, just curious, not baiting, know very little of BW, does the latest version of BW have generative MIDI functions like with the upcoming Ableton 12?

Ableton "updates" have become a joke

v9 had real improvements in its lifespan and lasted years, but since v10 and v11, that has completely changed

Frequent expensive updates are the future for Ableton users

Not really. It has and there's also a ton of similar to Max4Live, but the overall MIDI editing is still fairly basic.
