As Jules99 mentioned, it definitely feels as if they've taken a leaf from the FLStudio Midi editing - and I'd love to see more of that in Ableton and Bitwig (And others) - but otherwise, aside from the UI enhancements that should have happened years ago, it does seem to be a fairly 'light' update. Perhaps the underlying architecture has been changed to open the door for bigger future improvements.

All that said, there's enough in there for me to upgrade.

Post

It dosen't feel like a massive update but it's the little idosyncratic things like the new midi generators/shufflers and the new unique devices that gets me. That's why I love Ableton in the first place. I'm all for adding Q.O.L improvements like many are asking but as long as they do it in a very ''ableton'' way. I think they nailed with the comping feature in live 11. I use more a creative way to create midi and audio than I use it for actual comping in the tradionnal sense.
I make electronic music - DAW of choice : Live 12

Not really. It has and there's also a ton of similar to Max4Live, but the overall MIDI editing is still fairly basic.
Ouch. Every time I see stuff like that I recoil back to my cozy life with Live. That stuff make me feel like I'm programming rather than making music. Nothing bad with that of course. Just not my sack of potatoes.

v9 had real improvements in its lifespan and lasted years, but since v10 and v11, that has completely changed

Frequent expensive updates are the future for Ableton users

A bargain when compared to Bitwig's annual subscription or Cubase.

It looks awesome to me, I like being able to access the mix from the arrangement page, the new midi stuff looks very inspirational too.
Looking forward to it!

The browser improvements and the way they've smoothed out dealing with clips seems like big improvements to me. The midi stuff looks fun and actually pretty useful for people who aren't piano players. Good enough for me, even if that's a low bar.

but it's just one search away on https://community.vcvrack.com/t/good-mo ... tive/17293 so :-? in BWS the MIDI devices can be used directly no need for routing magic as in Live

there are zillion devices on https://bitwiggers.com/presets/?name=ge ... stom_tags= too seems Polarity big fun of these ones :D

The piano roll split and join notes were a huge L to not have. So exciting to see this finally come to Ableton. I can’t wait to trial live 12 looks like a lot of fun. This is a big update to me.

Unpopular opinion, but I think Ableton updates are too cheap/don't represent good value and if they were *lower in cost* but more frequent, maybe they could increase development from a snail's pace to a spritely turtle's pace :hihi:

Maybe so, but that stuff is way over my head. And looking in the thread it seems I wasn't the only one. No... no Bittawigga for me. I'm staying with Live.

You are right. 11 came out 3 years ago. It really feels like it came out like one year ago.

Why do Bitwig fanboys always try and hijack Ableton Live threads?
It's weird!

Ah yes, healthy discussion about two similar DAWs, must be hijacking by fanboys :dog:
