I find this sort of eq-ing very useful but I make a lot of drone / field recording / experimental based work. Only ever make song type music if playing with someone else (and years go by without that happening lol) Been playing with the ScalerEQ and love it. Now about to go through everything else I have to see if there are overlaps. If not it is a buy for sureMichael L wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 12:18 am I have an EQ with bands that I can set to a note, or I can set any band as a follow EQ to boost or cut -12 to +24 semitones from the midi input.
The problem is that 12ET scales do not equal harmonic series. You can hear the difference between chords in equal tuning and just intonation.
Boosting notes can increase dissonance with existing harmonics and muddy the sound of instruments, which is probly why the Apqualizer video uses sounds with few harmonics for examples.
PlugInBoutique Scaler EQ just released today!

Yes! Add a little order to chaos (once in a while). But creates more ways to make it fit in mix.

And what does it really matter if you’re a musician/producer/engineer anyway?

These are the specific basic legal requirements. The link has more information in Steps 1 through 5, but still doesn't give a full picture of what all is involved in "successfully" obtaining and continuing to hold a patent.
It matters to musicians/producers/engineers because patents grant a temporary (which is not so temporary) monopoly in exchange for divulging new and non-obvious methods, structures, and so on. Granting a monopoly in exchange for nothing is a violation of the social contract that is the basis for IP laws, and this can adversely affect everyone.

patents only have value if you can enforce them and the most seemingly trivial of designs can be patented eg https://www.theverge.com/2012/11/7/3614 ... ed-corners
but this eq seems to have many many aspects that are new in combination - which is patentable even if the individual components are not particularly novel (and I dont know if a scale based eq is novel or not)

Oh yeah, this kind of tool will help detect and strengthen a root note and harmonies in broadband sounds, like that tuned drum example in the apqualizer video.neverbefore wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 12:43 amI find this sort of eq-ing very useful but I make a lot of drone / field recording / experimental based work.
BTW, it's "patent pending" which means they just filed a patent application. Most EQs show the note for each band and harmonics, so their main innovation is the great design and workflow - how they linked scale detection, boost/cut and mid/side, and the flexibility with notes.

Does anyone know if this uses the Beatport Access licensing system or is it just a serial number?

Makes good sense to kind of 'reverse - engineer' it to bring out the tonality in more 'none - tonal' sounds e.g. drones, noises.serge wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 1:26 am Yes! Add a little order to chaos (once in a while). But creates more ways to make it fit in mix.

If I understand it correctly, it removes multiple frequencies with very narrow band filters. That makes it a problem solver, not something you apply everywhere. Similar to comb filters which remove multiple frequencies which are harmonically related, the results may turn out sounding hollow and lifeless, sometimes hard to recognize pitch.

EDIT: ok my mentioned EQs has a piano which can guide you, but not as deep editing as this EQ. Actually i see i might find its use when sculpting bassdrums...

Might have some uses for sound - design, yet when it also messes too much with phase.
