Does anyone have a real JX-3P who can discuss the metal sync sound?

I'm really curious about this sound and have been reading a lot about it. I downloaded the plugin, but it just sounds like FM modulation to me.
Can anybody upload audio of the metal sync sound from an actual JX-3P? I read this awesome in depth analysis saying the JX-3P didn't have the ability to do FM. It claims its osc sync but the slave DCO is also resetting or something?

Is this even possible to do in Dune3 or Zebra? Seems cool.
Thanks!

Ha! Funny, the JX-03 manual says:
MET 1–2 (METAL)
Produces a metallic sound by using the DCO-2 waveform to modulate the DCO-1 frequency. Setting the value to 2 produces a greater effect.
The original JX-3P manual says:
By controlling the DCO-1 with the output signal from the DCO-2, ring modulation style sound can be obtained
And the JX-3P plugin:
Metal: Creates a waveform that synchronizes DCO-2 to the oscillation frequencies of both DCO-1 and DCO-2.
I mean...that sounds to me like FM. That link I posted looked at the schematic so I'm not doubting him but the description here sounds like FM cross mod. And the plugin sounds just like FM too.
So what's going on here?

The long answer (you may not like)
FM is tricky because very small differences in the waveform used to modulate the frequency of another waveform can have substantial effects. They often use the term 'metal' to denote the atonal nature of the sounds that are made from traditional frequency modulation like that of the JX-3p. There are many algorithms used in FM synthesis that can create tonal sounds that are not described as 'metal' and they can be found today in both hardware and software.
Personally, I love the atonal sounds that some FM algorithms make, but again, there is a wide array of these too and I would not buy hardware for an FM sound because it can be done well in software like the FM engine I bought from Sinevibes or the free OXE softsynth that I used to use.

Thank you! Do you know anything about the JX-3P?

Do you know amything about FM? Because the article you linked to in the first post explains it really well, and it's not something you'd typically achieve with classic FM.

Thanks. I know they posted that image but the plugin I have sounds just like FM and I get the same exact sound with Dune3 using FM.BertKoor wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 7:49 am Do you know amything about FM? I’ll have to look at an oscliscope but I dont think metal sync actually looks like that. That’s also kinda why I’m asking if anyone has the real synth so I can hear what metal sync sounds like.
