Any mention of whether the amount of Collections can be increased? I think it's just 7 at the moment and it's a feature I use a lot but wish there wasn't an arbitrary limit on the amount you can have.

Not increased, but with tags you won’t even need Collections. I haven’t touched collections in 12 because you can add tagged groups to the side bar as a category in the browser.Dazd_N_Confuzd wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 7:57 pm Any mention of whether the amount of Collections can be increased? I'm loving Live 12 so far. Way more than Live 11, coming from Live 10 (first version I tried).
Are the features already set in stone, or will they keep adding features in subsequent beta versions before release in early 2024?

Stuff got tweaked and improved in the last beta (11) but I don't remerber anything major being added. We do always get pretty big 'feature' updates in 12.1, 12.2 etc...
Rhythm generator Tool looks pretty cool, hadn't see that mentioned much.

X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

As Slic mentioned, Ableton has added more stuff in major iterations down the line. I wouldn't buy something for the unknown but they've been good about adding more.

People love talking about software that helps them be creative, people also sometimes get upset about workflow in a way that makes no real sense. I was guilty of that 20 years ago, a simple bug had me switch from DP to Logic.enCiphered wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 7:38 pm My assumption is that they aren't musicians, more likely people who enjoy experimenting but never really take music seriously or professionally. Because it absolutely doesn't make sense to invest so much time in typing all day long or complain about such things if there's nothing to gain from it.
By the way, I finally found my spirit level yesterday. God knows how it got behind the refrigerator.
Recently it was frustrating waiting around for DP and Live to get MPE when Logic, Bitwig, Studio One, Reaper etc. etc. already had it. I ended up with copies of all of them. I'm back in Live and DP for the most part now, and they both do MPE well. I got excited about Push 3 then disappointed that it's not set up yet to write whole songs on, and ranted about it here, as well as emailed Ableton my feelings about it. I don't get people who complain and don't try to get their opinions heard by the people that can do something about it though.

I haven't mentioned my feelings about the upgrade yet, because initially I misread that they were getting an AI search feature like XO or Sononym so I'm irrationally disappointed.
Waiting to get on the beta to see how the UX changes play out, looks good to me though. My only whinge is why worry about devices and midi at the same time when it's still a hack to see plugins in a mixer strip?

Seeing it might be easier...Dazd_N_Confuzd wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 7:57 pm Any mention of whether the amount of Collections can be increased? I think it's just 7 at the moment and it's a feature I use a lot but wish there wasn't an arbitrary limit on the amount you can have.
In this, I selected the available tags for VST3, and Fabfilter plugins then added a custom Character tag, titled KVRaudio.
Choosing the "+" sign in the Results bar is what allows you to save it to Categories. You can always remove this later.
Its nicely customizable.

Yeah, I've seen some hyping up the feature as like XO or Atlas... I didn't know about Sononym before.machinesworking wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 9:57 pm I haven't mentioned my feelings about the upgrade yet, because initially I misread that they were getting an AI search feature like XO or Sononym so I'm irrationally disappointed.![]()

I'm coming from XO... It does show you sounds immediately similar to the selected one, but it's not like you can freely move the mouse around over the UI. XO can be its own instrument that way... This isn't it, but it could be helpful.
I generally don't use the Sounds option in Live. This was mostly because it was a jumble of samples with arbitrary names. That's where the Search Similar option is nice for making this more useful.

The question then is does it show sounds similar that are not currently tagged? that’s where XO, Sononym and Atlas use AI to a natural advantage IMO.elxsound wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 10:15 pmYeah, I've seen some hyping up the feature as like XO or Atlas... It actually isn’t that big of a deal to me if it doesn’t, I’m waiting to buy Sononym on Cyber Monday because it usually goes on sale for half off then, and a universal browser that I can use outside of Live is more useful for me personally. I mess around with Bitwig sometimes, spend time with the MPC Live II, Metasynth and DP11 as well.

From a video a watched it seems that tagging has nothing to do with the “similar” search…machinesworking wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 10:22 pmThe question then is does it show sounds similar that are not currently tagged? that’s where XO, Sononym and Atlas use AI to a natural advantage IMO.elxsound wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 10:15 pmYeah, I've seen some hyping up the feature as like XO or Atlas... Maybe someone on the beta can chime in? It’s would be cool if similarity search had some AI action, but not a deal breaker since full fledged third party AI similarity search apps already exist. I worry more about UX things, ARA integration, and generally things that affect workflow that can’t be done by outside plugins or apps. Have to admit the new plugins look good though!liquidsound wrote: Wed Nov 15, 2023 10:40 pm From a video a watched it seems that tagging has nothing to do with the “similar” search…

Likewise with XO and others, expect some time to analyze content the first time using it.
It’s fast after that
