Since FL owns UVI why not have no ilok UVI plugins for FL users?

I don't like ilok and I'm thinking since UVI owns it now doesn't it make sense that you could buy UVI stuff and have it put in the Plugin Manager without all the ilok rigamarole (bet you never thought you'd see that word today). It seems like a win win for everyone. People like me who don't want to
deal with ilok might seriously consider Falcon and other UVI products. You'd sell more because you have a built in audience.

UVI doesn't own FL. The private equity which owns Image Line (Waterland), also owns UVI. So it's actually more correct to say that FL owns UVI not the other way around.
UVI continues to operate on their own. So they won't really shed iLok any time soon, if ever.

Either way. I read this:
However, it will be exciting to see how UVI positions itself in the future. Whether everything stays the same or whether both companies work closely together. Like a Falcon-style synth plugin or more codes or sound content for FL-Studio. Either way, it will be good to see where the new UVI path will lead.
(so I'm not the only one)

It'll probably position itself as UVI. Its not like its been merged with IL, its still a separate company.osiris wrote: Mon Nov 13, 2023 9:28 pm However, it will be exciting to see how UVI positions itself in the future.

No your not the only one.
Talk of iLok has always been a sore thumb topic here, I can understand those that like using there dongles for projects.
I like the system Izotope and Sonible now use, you can use either iLok or website machine based activation.
It keeps everybody happy.
I do miss using UVI's Shade, but I have other EQ tool options.

UVI doesn't require a dongle and you can authorize it to your computer via the iLok licenser app thingy. i think you can auth to the iLok cloud too but i haven't messed w/that much.MJACau wrote: Thu Nov 16, 2023 4:43 pm No your not the only one.

iLok is pretty invisible these days until it's time to sell a license then you have to cough up the transfer fee... or if your machine dies or something and you can't deauthorize the computer and have to get all your licenses wiped out by the devs and then reinstall on new machine etc.

I don't want the Pace DRM root kit on my system.

We all have opinions. I accept it. I’m not losing sleep over it. And if the customer is always right, as you say, then that means I’m also right since I’m a customer.

Didnt IL stop making VST versions of all their own plugins? Not thinking that making more plugins FL-locked is such a great idea...

Me either. That's the Reason way they're apparently heading to.whyterabbyt wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 8:53 am Not thinking that making more plugins FL-locked is such a great idea...
Well, as I bought Harmor and Slicex as VST-versions I'm absolutely not confident to use them in a project anymore. Slicex VST already shows flaws in Live11 (GUI-wise) ... sad story.

No. Not locked into. Just a version that the Plugin Manager can store a license in. Is this why people are freaking out? I don't want it to turn into Reason.

Mine isn't an opinion, it's a moral choice.I think I have every type of copy protection on my computer.
We all have opinions.
In a subjectivist world.
If you think morality don't doesn't take part in peoples buying of products, licencing protections isn't a persons 'opinion'. I know licencing is the first thing I look at, no matter how they try to hide it.
Case and point, when Waves decided to go subscription only. Many people were upset, I don't think it was just those peoples 'opinion' over that of Waves marketing.
The OP's concern over UVI's licencing is a valid one.

I don't think they stopped. I still have Grossbeat as a VST. They provided an update of it latest build. Vocadex seems to have disappeared as a VST.

"it's a moral choice" is in itself an opinion. "accepting software licensing via this specific method amounts to an immoral (even amoral) act" is not factual, even if one is solipsistic.MJACau wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 8:12 pmMine isn't an opinion, it's a moral choice.I think I have every type of copy protection on my computer.

"licencing protections isn't a persons 'opinion'" - is gibberish.
Accepting that a product that cost money to develop and distribute requires a license to use is supposed to even be an ethical question? It always strikes me when I see this how someone acts here as though the world must be perfectly communistic but scratch that surface & we'll find are entirely self-serving with it.
