¡Seguro que NO!Stan Navi wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 8:23 amAfter Bitwig 5.2 release...Trancit: Hola Bitwig! Es bueno verte de nuevo.![]()
The PR Editor is my absolute center piece of working as I am too silly to play a keyboard...
Bitwig´s PR editor is the worst on the market, always zoomed out to max vertically and by default new clips open with a 32nd notes resolution... how silly is that??
Besides these (for me) main issues:
- no scale highlighting/snap to scale... I am not a noob in terms of music theory... that´s not the point but anybody who had often the need to shift notes/chords of different pitches can clearly tell how much of a timesaver this feature is...
- when folding view for multiple clips from different tracks, each get´s it own folded area... again I must ask: how silly is that??
- the velocity range is always hidden by default... well done! another Bitwig feature I don´t need...
- graphical issues all the way...
- many more points I like better to forget...
Second, if I rate the useability of Live´s Instrument and FX with 100% for my personal taste Bitwig´s devices are about at 50-60%...
The better ones are all based on the Grid and take more than double of the CPU Live´s equivalents do...
I don´t get the way the Bitwigs seem to think and plan... how can anybody get the idea to put out a Sampler 2.0 with (at the very end nerd-) features like Granular and Wavetable without having even a timestretch option in there???
Bitwig... as a device focussed DAW... is the only DAW out there not having a native Sampler with timestretching...
If this is the wished way of being "different"... thank you... but no!
Bitwig got some nice approaches but most of what it does different to Ableton doesn´t bother me at all...
- Parallel Session and Arrange view I have 0 interest in...
- Bounce in place... I never use... while what´s interesting for me is selecting clips of multiple tracks and bounce them in one file... all the other do this... Ableton has at least a good working M4L device for this... but Bitwig doesn´t without difficult and manual routings...
- MPE on multiple Midi channels/multiple Midi channels in general... nope... I don´t need...
- I seem to be lucky with my plugin choice... in not a single DAW (besides of Waveform and Bitwig) I can remember ever a plugin has crashed for me...
In Bitwig though it happened multiple times... no wonder they need a sandbox system...I do not if I am not working in Bitwig...
Besides the fact that Ableton natives work so well for me that I don´t have the feeling to be in the need of using many 3rd party plugins... different in Bitwig though...the Reverb alone... this thing would have been already bad for a plugin released in 2000 ... and what´s their solution? A convolution reverb!! Hurray!
Sorry guys... but you don´t understand (me)!!
...
You get the point...

^^^ but Bitwig is able to read the .fls format, isn't it? Can the workflow be separated into two parts, composition, and sound design, In my opinion, the composing part in FLS is still better than its ALS counterpart, and the sound design in BWS is much more satisfying with the .clap format, Dune, and Hive make it very likable (per note modulation).
as far as I know, there is no ALS equivalent for the shared and independently running per-note modulation on XY devices and within their own containers [think]
ps. "Bounce in place... I never use..." MIDI materials also can be dropped into samplers which is also "bounce in place", and please buy a f*king MIDI keyboard
, Ottaviani only uses the white keys on it in A minor, tickling the ivories, and transposes from there, yet he manages well with it

I never read Bitwig threads so I have a question: do Live users post all over Bitwig update threads?
I use Live and Logic. Logic threads are mostly on-topic apart from a few trolling posters, but Live threads are always full of Bitwig bollocks.

The thing is Bitwig is more a synthesizer than DAW. Super complex, full-featured sound design tool with a lot of possibilities which pairs nice with any other DAW

True (I have both) but I don't go on Bitwig threads to discuss Live (or say if I prefer it)...Stan Navi wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 2:41 pmYes. Right from when BW was announced and the Ableton forum started to heavily feature "I hate Live and can't wait to abandon it for BW" comments, Live discussion has been a bit of a shitshow.
Oh well, whatever, never mind

Bitwig vs Live IMO is ontopic (both DAWs have the similar target audience and both DAW influence each other heavily), an in this particular case, I won't want to hijack it, just a little
My Bitwig license has expired, although I managed to slip into the 5.1 beta. I'm contemplating between the two brands; I'm sticking with Bitwig for now, and if you manage to convince me, I might switch.

When I search for your user name in Bitwig I can see 9 pages full of posts from you discussing LiveSLiC wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 2:44 pm True (I have both) but I don't go on Bitwig threads to discuss Live (or say if I prefer it)...
Search found 123 matches: Ableton Live
Anyway, I don´t see how this is supposed to be a bad thing? I also own both DAWs and love to crossread opinions, no matter where. Often, it's not just opinions and comparisons, but also valuable information.

I also started with Live and always was interested in new directions and features and sometimes considered to buy it. But now for me Bitwig a little bit outwheight Ableton features, though first two days of Live 12 announcements, I thought that it is exactly what I need and have to buy it. But now my GAS is became a little bit weaker and I understand that it will not help me to make better music. It is all depends on our skills.
