Speedrum 2 is a hidden gem.

Up until a few years ago, I was integrating reverb into timbres/sound design I used, to be played at the time of recording, or live. I still have a lot of that in older patches and recordings. What changed for me though, was picking up a good external reverb box (BigSky) then trying to force that into everything, because I liked it.. wanted to exploit its goodness. What I learned over the last few years, that worked for me.. Is... I still utilize some instrument built-in effects, reverb... lightly. I put the BigSky at the end of my signal chain ( effects loop) behind delay... then compression and out. So it's a mix. Some (typically light) reverb as part of a core timbre of a patch.. and then reverb controlled across the mix and applied to channels to help blend. Im probably describing this whack-a-do...

I disagree. Having a plate reverb on something mixed tastefully, and a room verb on something else, and a hall on something else can create contrast if done well. The same reverb on everything doesn't create a sense of space.mountainmaster wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:57 am A mix can become cluttered and unnatural if each instrument has a different type of reverb.
I prefer to have the same reverb on all instruments but not in equal amounts.
Totally agree. A reverb is just a fancier more convoluted delay.mountainmaster wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:57 am I found that a very subtle delay often works better than reverb for making an instrument less dry.

Some of them are great like
Viper, Rapid, Falcon, Dune 3, Omnisphere
But the issue thse reverb are pretty limited... I usually use my third party reverbs like Eventide Ultrareverb way more versatile.

Gotta agree with this. Sometimea telhe built in reverb will work great with a sound, but if it's a prominent sound I'll almost always at least try with othe reverbs I have. And I rarely, if ever, have gone back to the synths reverb...Aloysius wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 6:50 am A lot of times it seems that the built in effects are nothing special. They do not seem to be designed to work with the instrument. They are just generic code.

As a preset designer, of the highest calibre!, you would definitely know more than most how onboard reverbs sounds, as you'd be constrained to them for your preset packages.Aiynzahev wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:17 am I'd say the Virus line is an example of the one of the worst onboard reverbs I've ever heard. Perhaps the very worst though is Largo. Anyway the good ones, I'd say the one in Spire, Massive (and Massive X) and Diva's is nice too.
I'd be curious to know what other reverbs you use?
Massive X does have a good reverb for sure. I have several UAD and Valhalla, and find I usually get something more to my taste from these, than from a synth directly...

But but... He said the Virus line had terrible reverb....aMUSEd wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 9:39 pmI love the one in Spire too but tbh that's largely because it reminds me very much of the one in the Virus Ti, which I also love.Aiynzahev wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:17 am I'd say the Virus line is an example of the one of the worst onboard reverbs I've ever heard. I don't like the TAL reverb 4 at all. Its tail is far too noisy for me.replicant X wrote: Fri Aug 04, 2023 11:08 pm I love TAL's reverb when it comes to synths.
It's common to use a different reverb than the one that comes with the synthesizer.
But in my opinion, there is no reverb that matches synths better than TAL's reverb, so it should be built in. Especially when using TAL synths.
Dune 3 has a very usable integrated reverb. I don't know if it's the same as Obsession, which was praised a couple of pages before.
Charlatan 3 's reverb is not bad either.

Frankly, I don't think it's rocket science. Most onboard reverbs simply suck, and, everyone with half an ear can hear that._leras wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 10:23 amAs a preset designer, of the highest calibre!, you would definitely know more than most how onboard reverbs soundsAiynzahev wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:17 am I'd say the Virus line is an example of the one of the worst onboard reverbs I've ever heard. The fact that I completely agree with what Sami wrote here proves that. And, I'm surely not talented by any stretch.

I think Soundbetter Butterfly effect (buy now) might use something like comb filtering to keep the reverb in key. You can assign midi notes to tune the reverb musically.
I don't think it's the same as the resynthesis inside adpativerb and also doesn't do the adaptiverb thing of filtering/tuning the output based on the input.
Adaptiverb still seems pretty unique. It sounds absolutely glorious but one of the heaviest in terms of CPU use.

I was just checking out Dune 3’s new reverbs (free in an update) and they’re pretty damn good. Definitely usable.lolilol1975 wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 1:47 pmI don't like the TAL reverb 4 at all.
