Why do people here hate on cherry audio?

I don't trust their copy protection, with downloads and updates in the DAW. Feels like it's a plugin streaming service. I do like their Jupiter 4 Emulation (waiting for an Arturia alternative...) and the MG-1 though.

The new Harmonium synth looks really cool. It looks like their best thing to me since the core Voltage Modular was made. I think I am going to buy it.

I don’t think there’s “hate,” as much as there is conflict between people giving valid criticism and die hard fans.
In 2023, there’s an expectation among people who use analog synths that an emulation will have a level of detail and lack of artifacts that are as good as Repro, Model 72, etc. While Cherry Audio plugins can sound very good, they don’t provide the same level of detail and sometimes show noticeable artifacts. When that’s stated, it’s not taken as an unemotional observation, but as an attack.
I don’t think that an emulation has to be accurate to be useful for making music. I don’t even think everything should sound “analog.” However, when you announce yourself as an accurate emulation, you have opened the window to analysis and criticism.

I just bought it from JRRShop. It was $41.16 on sale with the "group" coupon.zerocrossing wrote: Thu Nov 16, 2023 5:40 pmI thought it seemed really cool too. I usually like to demo their synths when they arrive. I'll never get to try a genuine Jupiter 6 so Mercury-6 will be the closest for now. I don't have any problems with most of them and they all sound good to me, although I didn't get on with Sines (maybe the layout). I'm not too keen on having lower and upper modes in a synth as it gets too busy, I'd rather open another instance to keep control and one mode can sound good enough to me.
Elka -X and Mercury-4 are my favs and Octave Cat is great for a simple synth.
You can produce great music with any of them.

My thoughts as well however I don't hate CA whatsoever.zerocrossing wrote: Thu Nov 16, 2023 5:39 pm In 2023, there’s an expectation among people who use analog synths that an emulation will have a level of detail and lack of artifacts that are as good as Repro, Model 72, etc. While Cherry Audio plugins can sound very good, they don’t provide the same level of detail and sometimes show noticeable artifacts.

I don’t hate them either. What I hate are the people who seem to be ready to fight about any sort of criticism anyone makes about them. I’ve always said they’re a good value, but there are better alternatives if you have the money and CPU to spare.yul wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 12:03 pmMy thoughts as well however I don't hate CA whatsoever.zerocrossing wrote: Thu Nov 16, 2023 5:39 pm In 2023, there’s an expectation among people who use analog synths that an emulation will have a level of detail and lack of artifacts that are as good as Repro, Model 72, etc. While Cherry Audio plugins can sound very good, they don’t provide the same level of detail and sometimes show noticeable artifacts.

They are probably making too many plugins and hence they don't spend as much time as necessary to make exact emulations. That is my theory. I mean, when you look at the leading names in that industry, they have made relatively few plugins and keep improving them rather than pumping out a new one every couple of months.
I think it is the same with Full Bucket. Lots of plugins, but they are emulating the GUI's and feature sets of the originals, rather than the sound.

The ones i have and tried sounded good but UI's were not best in class and they have been generally very CPU intensive on my set up. I still think they offer good value plugins considering price but they remain unistall for me until i upgrade my PC lol.

I agree. Softube nail the Juno 106. The Cherry Audio absolutely not.BONES wrote: Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:56 am They are chalk and cheese to me. I only bought DCO-106 because my bandmate had it and he was using it in a few things but, since we both got Model 84, neither of us have even considered using DCO-106. I didn't bother installing any of the Cherry synths on my latest laptop.

I think an important distinction is that Full Bucket discloses in the manuals that he is emulating the architecture, not necessarily exactly replicating the sound... whereas Cherry's claims of sonic accuracy are quite a bit bolder (e.g. "a meticulous recreation" or "exactingly faithful").Odd Fella wrote: Fri Nov 17, 2023 5:52 pm They are probably making too many plugins and hence they don't spend as much time as necessary to make exact emulations. With Full Bucket, in the manuals he says stuff like:
orI know that FB-7999 does not sound exactly like the DW-8000 (thus the “7999”) nor the DW-6000. But it is close enough for me (not necessarily for you, though)
And of course my usual warning: It does not sound like the original BITs, not even close, it never will, you know, analog fairy dust and all that stuff…

The only synth from Cherry audio i hate is their Juno 106 that doesn't even deserve it's name being way off from the original.
On the other hand my Behringer Cat is replaced by their Octave Cat.
The sliders on their Octave Cat is not 1:1 to the Behringer one but with some fine tuning they got extremely close.
The Cherry Cat does also have better bass and other goodies and sounded a little better than the Behringer to me + on the Behringer the PWM Sine lfo craps out if you play too many notes in a row where it will stop responding at random intervals which makes it useless unless you are a 1 note player.
I also like their Memorymode and their Mercury 6 but i don't have the Originals to compare them with but they do sound great
