Hello,
I'm looking for a way to organize my plugins better than just storing them in a folder.
Is there a way to tag your plugins?

Post

What DAW do you use?

"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

REAPER

You can add custom folders in Reaper's plugin browser, if that helps.

TBH, Reaper's browser is a mess, no wonder you're looking for more overview.

I know that, but I would like to have a system where I can search for "drums" and "punk" and then I will be shown the right plugins or the plugins where I think they are good for it. Like the tag function in a sample manager.

Well, you can rename the plugins. So you can add tags to the name itself. Then search for the "tag" like you would for any part of the name.

Even faster, try the Fast FX Finder by n0ne: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=229807

I use this:
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I've not tried it yet but I *think* this is one of the features of PluginGuru's Unify plugin - https://www.pluginguru.com/products/unify-standard/

EDIT: Yep check out the 'subsets' demonstration at 10:35 here -

Yeah, you surely need third party tools for that.

Post

Thanks, there are really cool ideas. I'll try to program a program that assigns the plugins tags, until then I'll just write the tags directly in the plugin names.

Unify, VIP or the Bitwig browser can organize and tag presets independent of plugins. In the end you want sounds. You call up a preset and that preset knows which plugin to load... Same idea is behind NI KK... If the DAW does not do it, the disadvantage is, that there is always a plugin within a plugin...

I know this is quite an old thread...But just letting you know the following:
I've recently done a feature request for Tags for plugins and presets in Reaper:
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php ... hreadtools (https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?p=2733941#goto_threadtools)

Also there's a Reaper script called Adder v2 which has had requests for tags. That would give the same result more or less.
https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=232928&page=3 (https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=232928&page=3)

I don't know if a lot of people get the power of Tags for this use case - but IMO it's THE solution for plugin and preset management. It solves the whole problem, regardless of folder structures and every other consideration.

Maybe ReaLearn and its Pot Browser is something for you:
