This thing released not too long ago with a bit of a silly price tag, well that price tag has gone down a bit and seems a bit more reasonable (£1695 at Andertons for example).

Worth it? It's a pretty interesting and feature rich synth.

It has 4 less voices and less sample storage, 2.6 GB vs 4Gb of the regular Iridium. Quantum Mk2 has around 60GB
Considering flash memory is cheap, seems skimpy

So it will likely have different presets to the Iridium regular, which contain some fantastic ones from Matt Johnson - played them in person not so long ago.

I could have gotten an Iridium keyboard, with that sweet feeling key bed and Poly AT, and with more knobs and better interface for around the same price a few weeks back, missed out.

So it's not that great relative to it's siblings

It does sound great, and there is also the granular engine. But I decided to go into the direction of the Modwave, so I'm trying to come up with creative alternatives for granular effects in hardware form.

I don't know exactly what some mean by granular but this tutorial on Opsix might be it

Start at 17:50 maybe if this start to be granular

My newly aquired Opsix is way, way, way deeper than I expected in what you can do
- 6 operators which each can be any mode FM, Filter, Filter FM, RingMod, Wavefolder and Effect
- user operator design your own routing between any operators with any level at all
- effect mode gives comb filter and waveshaper and 8 more(new in fw 2)
- motion sequencer and a lot more

Apart from using random generation of various parts of a preset, you can have hands on very nicely to make accidents happen
- main home screen swap algos with Knob A
- shift rotary above slider swap modes on an operator without going to edit screen first
- shift slider swap waveform in the same manner

Just with any preset start altering these algos, waveforms or modes is really interesting getting to new territory to explore in a flash.

Think Korg did a tremendous job for creativity with Opsix.
- mine cost €430 on campaign but even at regular price a fraction of Iridium Core

Glad you are happy with your Opsix. I agree, there is so much hidden potential within the cheaper Korg synths. What I mean by granular is an effect where samples are cut up into small pieces and smeared around the stereo image like a reverb or delays. Basically, it's an often used effect for ambient. It would be perfect for the Modwave/Wavestate but of course, we're already getting a great deal in terms of features. Also the effect is fairly cpu intensive, so it might be something possible only on the Mkii versions, if those have upgraded processors. Not a problem on the Iridium because I assume it is using a powerful CPU.

I have an effect in daw that is called "particle reverb" that allow you to cut up in as small particles from pebbles to larger.

The most cpu hungry effects like reverbs are only on preset level on Opsix. So one instance of those. There are short delays for effect mode operator not to use too much cpu, I guess.

So that might be where Iridium has better chance to cope.

It's fully preset compatible to fullsize Iridium.

So sorry, late to this thread. 2 questions/comments.

1. Is polyphony 12 or 16?
2. Where do u buy it in the US w/out the $500 Korg distributor tax? ($2,100 at SW thru Korg vs $1,600 at Thomann, which don't ship to US).

Thanks.

Whoa. First I have seen this. This is actually the form factor I would want it in, much more than the full keyboard of the Quantum or the larger Iridium base model.

Not shelling out $2k but it still looks great.

Lots of motion in the pad examples, sound kind of reminds me of a more synthy Wavestate, but not as beautifully brutal as the Modwave. Seems like a really cool and versatile synth.
