Izotope or anything else as an alternative to Soothe 2 ?

The tried and true method of taking pro Q3 or something like Nova GE and dynamically notching out each resonance manually on each sound source to taste still gets better results for me, but it's painstaking and take a LONG time. Something very nice about getting 90% of the way there with Soothe in a few seconds. Soothe also can be used on sources like busses where the freq information varies widely.

I have Soothe, and it's nice concept, easy to use and fast to get results. However I found that I was getting better results from Master the Mix Reso, which is odd because its frequency de-res'ing is not dynamic. You can let it listen to your mixes and it will pick key resonating frequencies, which you can then adjust to taste. The algorithm is pretty soft-touch. In my case, it often picks 10-12 frequencies to adjust and I will grab 3-4 of those and reduce them far more than the algo's initial suggestions.
Head to head I just found this to be more natural sounding than Soothe, despite the fact that Reso is not a dynamic processor and it does take a little more work (but not much). Perhaps it's the dynamic motion of frequency tamping that I don't like... it me just makes everything sound more dull and lifeless overall.
Have not tried DSEQ, but I know that's popular as well.

Auburn Sounds - Lens is a great alternative to Soothe2 and its FREE!
The magic happens in the "comp. sidechain eq" section. Thats internal sidechain NOT external.

What about something like surfer eq from Sound Radix? Could it follow the resonant peaks around? I haven't tried it myself but am curious. Def. not one of the cheaper options either way but cool looking plugin. I'd like to have a Sound Radix plugin someday but it's not a necessity.

Although i generally agree, maybe you're (or better maybe i'm) just lazy. Who has the time to find all the mid humps with a dynamic EQ?DCrown wrote: Wed Nov 22, 2023 5:55 am When you have to use something like soothe too often, you might be generally doing something wrong
Slap soothe, set to -2dB max, lopass, done

This, especially when producing and not mixing yet. I also often use hi&lopass to set the area of effect instead of bell - not sure how much difference there is. It just happens sometimes, I swear!Ploki wrote: Wed Nov 22, 2023 1:27 pmAlthough i generally agree, maybe you're (or better maybe i'm) just lazy. Anyway how much is too often? Also one can use it to tame fex. lowmids area, sidechain to kick.. so maybe thats too often? ...

I installed the Soothe demo and it never showed up in my plugin list to use. I have used Sonible Smart EQ which I like. I've also read good things about the Melda one, but haven't tried it.

MSpectralDynamics outside the standard presents, is very deep if you get under the hood and tinker.osiris wrote: Wed Nov 22, 2023 2:35 pm I've also read good things about the Melda one, but haven't tried it.
