OMG Roland Galaxias... Who needs this? (Poor) DAW in a DAW? Also shop? I have no idea why Roland isn't spending time in better synths, improving their synths, optimizing the code, actually adding more features to their synthesis, instead reinventing their old wheels all the time and reselling it all the time.

It's not made by the same team that develops the actual plugins.

Are you seriously stepping from ignoring what your consumers are asking for and now actively trolling them on social media?

Don't imagine it's a wise move.

GALAXIAS will defy Lord Xenu so we all get superpowers (internet connection required for authorization purposes).

Hey WatchTheGuitar! I really apologize if you feel like I was trolling. I was just having a bit of fun at myself. I was trying to share a tutorial on GALAXIAS so you can see what it has to offer. I am definitely not ignoring what the KVR community has been asking for.

I realize it's entirely possible no one here uses one, but anyone have any suggestions about what in the Roland Cloud works well with an AE-30 (MIDI sax)? I am vaguely aware that somewhere there are breath-control configured Roland Cloud instrument patches.

Hey N 4 LIFE! From my understanding there are always release notes available with each update. These can be found by following the link on our news page whenever updates are made. With the exception being the last round which contained mostly internal housekeeping and preparation for GALAXIAS. I would like to see an improvement on our end in how y'all are able to access the update history of our plug-ins. I'll bring that up with the team!

Great observation! I'll let everyone know about this and I'm sorry you are having this issue. I use a Mac and was having the same issue when I just tested it. I found that after I put the GALAXIAS icon in the trash it allowed me to successfully uninstall GALAXIAS from my machine. If you haven't found the icon, it's in applications on Mac and for Windows it's on the Desktop or in the Program files folder. I also heard that if you close and re-open Roland Cloud Manager, that helps as well. Let me know if this works for you!

It absolutely would! I would love to see it and will keep advocating for y'all. :)
Cspeegle wrote: Sat Nov 18, 2023 10:46 pm I downloaded Galaxias and being an Ultimate subscriber, I expected to have all of the various instruments available. They all are labeled “not installed” What do I need to do?
Hey Cspeegle! Great question. We hope to eventually update GALAXIAS so you can install from inside the application, but for now you still need to install instruments and sounds in Roland Cloud Manager. If you are new to Roland Cloud and need assistance on how to download within Roland Cloud Manager, feel free to send me a private message. Thanks!

Hey Hanz! Jon from Roland Cloud here. As mentioned, GALAXIAS has its own team that doesn't work on Legendary Instruments or ZENOLOGY. But the team that does work on them have done great work this year doing exactly what you are asking for! This year we've updated all of our instruments to have expanded compatibility and new GUI but the JX-3P, JUPITER-4, JUPITER-8and JUNO-106 have all been updated to v2. These updates have expanded features, better sound, new browsing features, plus expanded compatibility features and improved GUI as well. With more instruments to follow! We've also updated ZENOLOGY to 2.0, which among other things, now includes reverb. There have been so many improvements to Roland Cloud Manager and our plug-ins this year that it's actually hard to remember all of them but there were many more.

Hi Jon, do you think Roland could provide a better guide, somewhere, as to what all the different sounds in Zenology actually are? Obviously, there are an awful lot of sounds/presets, but to someone who is not in the know, it's difficult to know how they are different from each other, or how they fit in the history of Roland sound design. For example, I saw this video from WoodyPianoShack on Youtube, and he was saying that some of the sounds in Zenology use the Roland 'supernatural' sound design philosophy, which is very different to, say, the 'legendary' Roland synths. But how on earth is a normal user meant to know or understand this (or to recognise which these are)? All they can see is Bank A, Bank B, etc, & the Roland programmers know what the sounds are, but the normal user won't have much of a clue. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

there is no guide that I could find. I spent tons of hours just trying to find presets to get my footing. Not a chance.

Hi Jon, thanks for your answer! Yes, I am not questioning the quality of Galaxias, it looks great and your team surely did a good job.

But what I am questioning is this: At Roland, decisions seem to be made fully marketing-driven, and not because you guys actually love synthesizers, anymore. If there is one company which could do real innovation in synthesis then Roland. But instead your are now stuck in an endless(?) loop re-releasing your algorithms over and over again.

Let's take zencore 2. Of course it sounds pretty good, the gui is now nice, too, and there are a ton of presets. But at the same time, the synthesis in zencore 2 still is pretty basic. You could have added stuff like, shapers, more filter slots, comb filters, am, real fm, resonators, more flexible routing... I mean a real, modern software digital workstation which does not feel like coming from a (by purpose) limited hardware, which actually can compete with synths like Zebra 2, Avenger, Falcon, SurgeXT, Synthmaster 2, Phase Plant, Vital, MSoundFactory and so on.

Similar story with your analog emulations. It is nice that people can get now the "official" emulation by Roland itself, redoing those iconic hardware stuff from over 30 years ago. At the same time, technical evolution happened. You could have redone these emulations, which accurately emulate your old synths, but at the same time could have been a lot more, having more synthesis capabilities, mixed with modern features. Or just doing a real Zencore 2, which can do all the others, but much more.

I understand the decisions at Roland: You have a lot of hardware models now which all use the exact same synthesis "zencore", and that's why it might be a lot of work, if you were really adding new features in synthesis. And I find such kind of decisions pretty sad, when it is made purely because of marketing and sales strategy first, and not because Roland actually loves synthesis.

I would love to buy a decent Roland software product, without a cloud subscription, and modern synthesis, but there is none for me.

Absolutely UKMusic! There's a lot to unpack with that so I'll keep it short and link you to some resources. ZENOLOGY is the accumulation of years of sound design and experimentation all brought into one digital software instrument. For example Roland's use of PCM synthesis or Pulse Code Modulation was originally released with the D-50 is a part of the superNATURALs sound design foundation. This technology differed from the classic analog instruments because it relied on samples instead of analog waveforms.

Another example is the Super Saw which consists of layers of saw waves stacked on top of one another and detuned, via with or without modulation, to create a massive wide effect on the sound, this was originally created for the JP-8000 and is a heavy influence in Trance and 90's electronic music. These are a couple of examples of classic Roland features that are found in ZENOLOGYs engine. ZENOLOGY allows user to combine and stack all of these options. I'd even argue that the structure of the instrument itself, with the ability to stack voices and tones, you can find examples of that in tons late-80's early 90's Roland instruments all the way up to today. Rolands technique can sometimes be very maximalist in my opinion and I think that contributes greatly to the urgent and dense nature of Rolands sound.

I know this doesn't fully answer the question. Below are some resources and some videos I think are helpful for explaining Roland's History and how you can find this within ZENOLOGY.

Simple answer to simple question would be nice…
And there is KORG;

Jon, I'm asking a question here because I think others may have a similar question.

I currently have a P4L subscription for Pro that ends on 2nd Dec. Will my subscription auto renew on 2nd Dec as another P4L subscription (I see the offer continues to 31st December) or do I need to do something? thanks

Supplimental question - I see that Pro is $99 - do you know what the total price in pounds? Sometimes VAT gets added

I already have lifetime keys for most of the stuff (all of the stuff I want, was in from the beginning but little to subscribe for now as nothing much added)- do you think they will ever include Zenology 2 lifetime key? I may subscribe for that?
